  • Santa Special

After a trip on the "Santa Special" at Bodmin and Wenford Railway... I don't normally go for part B&W/Part Colour but the chap leaning over had a bright orange safety jacket on which kept drawing the eye.

Very nice Tim and the treatment works well with this image.

By the way it is possible to change the colour and brightness of his jacket.
    Regards Paul.
One day I hope to be the person my dogs think I am.

Thanks Paul, I might have a go at that later but it wasn't just slightly orange, it was extremely orange so I have a feeling it may be difficult to mask out... this just seemed like the easier option!

It is a lovely photo of the young girl & it works very well in this setting. One other detail in the background that I'm intrigued about are the doors swinging out to open (because we have double sliding doors in our trains here), could be a bit less than ideal if the door failed to close.

Cheers Ross, yes the doors do swing outwards... this is an old-fashioned steam train but even so I'm sure there must be some kind of safety mechanism (apart from plain old common sense) especially as there are so many children riding on them!

To be honest, it's been so long since I've been on a "normal" train I can't even remember what sort of doors they have any more, perhaps someone else can help on that one!

            A really beautiful shot.
I think the "B&W plus colour" treatment helps to give it a real "past and present" feel.

Well, we have double sliding doors on our trains here as well but this is one of our many preserved "heritage" railways with real steam trains.See www.bodminandwenfordrailway.co.uk
These carriages date from the days "when I were a lad" when the passengers had to remember to shut the door themselves and the railway staff checked they were shut before the train departed. You may notice that the open door has no door handle on the inside. This is a useful safety device making it necessary to open the window and lean out and use the outside handle to open the door making it impossible to accidentally open the door from inside.

            Regards

I see (& have seen) the current passenger trains as I have taxied my children (over the years) to the station, plus the occasional family train trip to the city to visit the zoo etc., but otherwise it's by car & I don't do so much travel as I work from home.

We have our steam trains too, traveling from Sydney to the western most point of the Blue Mountains on day trips. See here & more on other routes here. I can't say I have noticed if their doors open out.

Thanks to you both for the feed-back on these details.
