Thanks for the kind comments everyone

It was taken with the 50-200 SWD and an EC-20 which seems to be a very nice match even wide open (which this was pretty much).

Hand held with IS1 enabled ISO100, f/7.1 1/320 second, best of a few I took.

            Very good shot Huw.
I think it illustrates the fantastic IQ of the e-5 as well.

Huw, that is a beautifully detailed photo of the moon. That lens combination on the E5 is really worthwhile.

Thanks Peter , yes I've no doubt that the E-5 helps

Thanks Ross , yes I have been pleasantly surprise by the EC-20 capabilities, particularly with the 50-200, it's not that far behind a EC-14.

Anyone got any good tips on the best way to shoot the moon

Hi Graham, your shot had more detail on the left hand side because that area was (last night) very slightly in shadow. The full Moon this evening will give little if any shadow detail.
I always prefer shooting when there is much more shadow is visible, half or crescents are much more interesting to me.

Any tips, well a steady hand + IS enabled or a sturdy tripod with mirror lockup+ Xs delay enabled.
Spot metering, ideally an setting ISO100 to 200, then it depends on your telephoto lens.... I generally shoot wide open (f/7.1) with the 50-200 SWD and EC-20. It seems to produce pleasing results, not every one is sharp (but I do tend go the hand held route) so maybe 25% out of a hand held batch look quite pleasing to my eye.
                        Regards Huw

I'm afraid I can't comment on the E-3 because I haven't owned one but I can testify to a difference between the E-30 and the E-5 image detail at 100% (basically pixel peeping). It's not immense but it is there.
Interestingly I also believe the E-5 out resolves the Pentax K-7, a 14.6 megapixel D-SLR which I owned before my E-30.

To be honest I'm not sure it would have made the difference in this shot though because I was using the EC-20. When using the 12-60, 50-200 without teleconverter or especially 50 f/2 I could see a difference.
                            Regards Huw

Yes, the E-5 is really better than the E-3 with respect to image quality.
