On yesterday's Sunday drive around the backblocks I stumbled upon a eerie little place called Thoona.
I can imagine that it was like traveling two centuries back in time with "Dr Who", although didn't meet any Darleks!
1.
Driving into Thoona this is what you see - a pub, a war memorial,
a store and an old gum tree, which aside from a few shanties is about all there is.
2.
Being Sunday the General Store come Post Office was closed, the proprietor and Postmaster (both of him) were probably across the road at the Pub.
3.
The General Store has emblazoned upon its facia, "Established 1880" and although the street was deserted as I unzipped the camera bag,
inevitably a group of people materialised from nowhere to pollute the picture just as I was about to trip the shutter.
4.
They pressed their noses against the glass to hide reflections - not a single ADS case among them, so I waited!
The window was full of bric-a-brac, an old butter urn, old records and a turntable player, cane chairs and rusty kitchen scales.
5.
I'm sure there are way more private PO Boxes than local residents to rent them.
I struggled to imagine what it would be like to live here.
6.
We headed out of town across the wide flat plains towards the Warbies (Range). The open rural landscape crouches beneath a high blue sky,
a shimmering distant homestead between two River Red Gums catches my eye as I fit the 50-200mm to pull it into focus.
