  • "Russian Roolettes" over Wangaratta

On a cold frosty morn' last June I was lucky enough to be invited to shoot the Russian Roolettes
do some fancy flying over the rural town of Wangaratta, North Eastern Victoria,
and at the same time got a bird's eye view of the district where I now live.

We mustered at the Wangaratta Aero Club at 6:00AM. Unfortunately, due to an overnight temperature of -3 Celsius,
only one of the Yaks got airborne as most were unable to start their engines until later in the day.

      Some stunners there, absolute stunners!

For some reason I really really like the last one - sticks out from the set for me - I think its the viewpoint and composition, love it

#2 and the last one - both display the subject in active context but I think they stand out because they are not cluttered with competing subjects. 10 is also good, for me. But all smashing bright pics! Well done.

Great opportunity, recorded in wonderful pictures.

5,10,14 are the best for me, but all are superb.

            Thanks for sharing.

Curiously, shooting the air show from a hot air ballon proved to be one of the most enjoyable assignments of my career.

As for your councillor, only posterity will decide which of us will be the more famous ...

              Thanks, Ross.

Thanks again, David. I was interested in which you liked best.

From my point of view, (literally) it was the rural splendor of the backdrop that made the shoot.

                        Some great shots there.

Only been in a hot-air balloon once, but enjoyed it. They are a wonderfully stable platform.

                          - Thanks.

It was worth getting up at 5:00AM to get to the airport briefing on such a cold frosty morning.

Forgive me for not replying sooner Mark - I thought I had replied to this particular post, but it must have been another?
                            I am confused
There was an air to air shot that I specifically liked, but you haven't included it here.
Anyway - I digress....... this is a very active set & puts the viewer right there.
You will have lots of lovely memories of this day and thank you for sharing it with us earthbound mortals.

Lyn, your confusion is quite forgiveable as this set was from an air event on the Queen's Birthday twelve months ago when Yaks and hot air balloons were in the air together.
On that occasion I was fortunate enough to have been invited to shoot from one of the balloons.
