Trying out my newly acquired EC-20 courtesy of Woofmix (thanks Paul) together with my trusty 50-200. I have to say I'm quite pleased with the results given the lighting conditions
Not so pleased that the local squirrel family have taken a liking to the bird food though

They're very good pictures. Remarkable quality for ISO 1600.
We ended up using squirrel baffles on our bird table and feeders because the squirrels were getting both greedy and destructive. If they couldn't easily get at the food they'd either chew through/round feeders or unhook them and run off with them! They even managed to pull out staples.
On a lighter note though, they don't like pigeons!
These were Jpegs from the camera with a touch of PP in Helicon (noise reduction, crop/resize and light sharpen).
I am finding that particularly at higher ISO the output from the E-5 is hard to beat for noise control and detail retention (in comparison to RAW with CaptureOne). Olympus have certainly worked some magic with their Jpeg engine in this camera
Ellie, glad you mentioned the baffle idea, thanks for that. I have implemented such a device this morning fashioned from the lid of a circular container, it looks a bit unsightly but hopefully it will deter the little monsters

They are really lovely, Huw. The pigeon reminds of our annoying Wonga Pigeon (it sounds like a continuous alarm) which I have inadvertantly scared off twice before I could get a photo. I thought you already had an EC20 (or did you borrow one?) using it with your Sigma 150 lens.
Our Ring Tail Possums here can be similar to your squirrels, but I still like them.

Hi Ross, thanks for your comments.
Regarding the teleconverter, it's the EC-14 I had been using (still have it) occasionally with the Sigma and also with 50-200 SWD (a better match I couldn't imagine). So I was curious about the EC-20 because of the obvious increase in reach it affords. Image quality wise it is still very good but slightly down on the EC-14 but then I expected that.
Still extremely useful especially when conditions are a bit brighter.

These are the best E-5 images I've seen so far that show what it can do at high ISO.
Exceptionally well composed and great IQ, just adds to my dilemma in which way to jump ... I have been considering adopting m4/3 but with some reservation.

Thanks for the generous comments Mark
These were Jpegs pretty much straight out the camera with a smidge of noise reduction in Helicon Filter (if I remember rightly). The ISOs for each image starting with the Squirrel are 640, 800, 800, 1600 and 1250 (ending with the Pigeon).
The E-5 jpeg engine really does do an excellent job with noise control. I have no worries shooting at ISO1600 and even on to 3200 providing I bias exposure to the right. In fact it is that good I find it difficult to match shooting RAW and PP using Capture One.
With regards to m4/3 I'm also thinking of giving it whirl but to compliment my 4/3rds gear rather than replace it. That new E-PL2 is looking quite tempting especially with the optional VF-2.

I have never got sharpness like this from my 50-200 + EC20 combo.
Must be doing something wrong.
My experience has been that it's not sharp 100% of the time although the hit rate is reasonably good if I remain sensible with the shutter speed, IS can only do so much
One encouraging point for the better (brighter) weather is that even wide open at f7.1 results can be really quite sharp, the Pigeon being a good example.
