  • A Wet weekend but...

Had a weekend in Lochaber. As is to be expected it was wet.
The manmade waterfalls were just as spectacular as the natural ones.

    Laggan Dam

Cia-Aig Falls (These were used in a Consulate fag advert years ago but in summer.)

    Loch Arkaig and Autumn colours

Its usually reckoned that the colours in the West are poorer but not this year

Further along the lochside I came on this chap and a few of his pals
Pushed it to ISO1600 but I think the noise adds to the character & I like his coat.
And if you look closely youcan see the rain.

He is real not a cardboard cutout. He turned to check it wasn't a Canikon.

Lovely shots Duncan, I can almost hear the noise of the rushing water in the first and the stag shots are belting

A great series, the stag shots are fantastic. How did you get so close?

Duncan, that's a great set of pictures despite the weather and every one of these shots is superb.

You may have got wet but I don't feel sorry for you, I always reckon that Scotland in the rain is still better than anywhere else in the dry. I'd swap places anytime!

The car is a wonderful hide.
There are always deer down on this road throug the winter. They will be there until March. I was prospecting for viewpoints and its a quiet road. (less than 1 vehicle on hour) They were there when I drove up so on the return I put the 50-200 on, cranked it up to ISO1600, turned IS on, opened it wide & put it on the seat beside me. By this time there was virtually no wind so scent wasn't a problem. They don't move much so the range was 15 yards max.
I followed the old adage of get the eyes sharp but as the aperture was wide his nose is OOF.
The Loch Arkaig road is a wee cracker. Its the only road I know where you can be struck underneath by a car coming the other way. Check it out on Google. (at ground level)

                      Thanks for all your comments.

Wow that stags great.I find iso 1600 can be fine if you get the exposure just right.

                        Well done.
