About a year ago I posted this picture of one of the Laurence Whistler windows at Hannington church:

(I intend to rephotograph it one day using wireless flash through the window on a dark evening to get this same effect but without any background. An ambitious project eh?...)
Anyway I was looking at it again much more closely and discovered an engraver's secret. As you see, there are sun rays, sheaves of wheat, and a scythe (nice snath, BTW). When you get really close you see that the sunburst and some of the wheat is engraved on the outside, while the rest of the wheat is engraved on the inside. The effect is very subtle. How clever is that...
