Sorry I won't be with you. I'll be collecting fossil plants in an opencast coal mine a little further west.
Have a nice day as our transatlantic cousins would say
Regards
Andy

Weather permitting I am up for it. it cannot be any wetter than the last time I was in the Beacons with my 11-22 and visibility was about Zero ( not when we started out I hasten to add !) In the meanwhile if you can put out any relevant Post Code for Sat nav use so much the better. Also a contact mobile number for the day would be good.
Here's hoping for an extremely successful day.
Best Regards
Phil
Cheers Phil... update on meeting time and place later.
Sorry but I was kinda hoping it would be last week and dont know if I can yet make it this weekend, I'll have to let you know on Friday, post all the details and I will do my very best as I really enjoyed the last meeting, if not I'll look forward to seeing all the great photos
Hehe Jim, that's further west and is actually the other side of the valley from where we are planning to go. I can imagine how you must have felt though... tired and thirsty I bet.
Yes, I'd come across Crybin, Pen Y Fan and Corn Dhu, and then dropped down to the Story Arms via the obelisk.
BTW, I think the 'obelisk' marked on the map ought to be 'memorial'. It describes a sad story of a child (Tommy Jones?) who was lost and found dead at the spot.
This is definitely on for me for Saturday folks - the weather forecast remains good for landscape photos, and I'll be heading up there leaving from home here at around 08:00. I'll use Google Maps to identify a convenient meeting place for those who wish to come along, and we can meet from around 09:00 - 09:30. I'll wait there for anyone who indicates they are coming along.
Please do though let me know if you are intending to come along as I will be waiting for those who let me know they are coming.
It's a fair way from me too (just over 1 hour) and I don't know the general area that well so need to look on google to find a suitable meeting point. I've had a quick look this morning but can't see anywhere so far, and have to leave for work shortly. I'll update the thread later. In the meantime please can you indicate if you intend coming along or not by leaving a message in here, and/or PM'ing me with your forum AND real name (in case I don't know it) together with mobile number. Thanks all.

Meeting point: Asda car park, Merthyr Tydfil, Dowlais - CF48 2YF
Meeting time: 09:00 - 09:30
I shall be in the Asda car park from 09:00 this Saturday morning. The post code is CF48 2YF, and the google link to the exact location where I will try to park is here.
As to the location of where we're headed, I can't find a post code for this, but here is the google map for the area I plan on walking. It's another 20 - 25 mins from the Asda car park to get to the Neuadd, and I plan on being up there for several hours generally walking around, exploring and taking pics. I have to be home about 6:00pm, and so will be leaving no later than 5:00pm.
So far it's just me and Phil (Jack benedict) coming my son Lloyd and daughter Heather are not coming this time, but the more who want to come... the merrier.
If you do plan on coming, the weather forecast is sunny spells with possible showers, but it is forecast to be cold - only 7 deg C (stated to feel like only 4 deg C). The walk around the reservoir is not strenuous and also it's not that far from where we can park up our cars; but please make sure you have warm walking gear, and sturdy hiking boots, as the area around the reservoir can be very boggy indeed. Here's an extract from the met office www site for Saturday...
Saturday
Sunny spells but also occasional showers, which could be heavy at times with a risk of thunder. Occasional hill fog in association with heavy showers. Windy with the fresh to strong southwesterly wind reaching gale force over hill tops.
So, looks like we've got the chances of a bit of everything; rain, sun, cloud, thunder/lightening... this is fine by me - gives some great opportunities for superb landscape shots.
On the link to the reservoir I provided above, you can also see there's a small blue area that's indicated (south of the res) - this is where we can stop (before or afterthe reservoirthough you can drink from the streams).
Everyone subscribed to this thread (as of this morning) should have received a PM from me. Please, please let me know if I should wait for you on Saturday morning or if you're not coming. Thanks all.
Looking at the weather forecast for Saturday I may well change my mind about coming. My E510 and wet weather do not mix well.
I will definitely contact you as soon as i can .... I was looking forward to a day in the Beacons. The cold I don't mind at all , but rain, winds, thunder ... it's for ducks !
According to met check, the weather forecast is still OK'ish up to about 3:00pm, so I am going to be at the Asda car park by 09:00 in the morning. There's only a few of us venturing out, but hopefully the rain will hold off for a few hours and we can get some decent shots in.
Don't forget your warm weather gear, and hiking boots.
Hi all, I'm sorry but I won't be able to be with you tomorrow. I simply have too many obligations this weekend. It's a bit of a relief as I was up late on Tuesday night (until 3AM) getting my E-P2 articles done. I haven't really made up the sleep deficit!
Hope you all have a great time and I will be looking forward to the pictures here of course!
I'm sure John will be inviting us all again in the not too distant future, and I hope I'll be able to make it then.
Of course I will Ian... I'll have to think of a few new great locations.
Anyway - we're back, and we had a great day. The rain held off, and in fact it didn't rain at all. It did cloud over and the mist descended on the peaks of the Pen-y-Fan and Cord-Du, but we kept dry.
I am loading up my images into Lightroom as I type this, and will try to post some later.
Was great to meet John and Theresa B, Steve and Dave...
