Opinions on Sony WF-1000X In-Ear Wireless Noise Cancelling Headphones

I'm considering buying a pair of Sony WF-1000X In-Ear Wireless Noise Cancelling Headphones and am wondering if anyone has experience of these.

I've got a pair of Xiaomi Redmi earbuds that were cheap and are excellent for speech, but want something that will handle classical music better without paying a lot for something like Bose.

The other thing is that there are a lot of these on Ebay being sold 'boxed - like new' by sellers who seem to have a lot of them. I'm wondering whether it's a sign of a lot of returns from dissatisfied users!

Due to my painful experience with certain brands, I would not advise buying any device with the words, Sony or Samsung branded on it.
As a matter of coincidence, I have recently been faced with the same dilemma in choosing a set of headphones for listening to audiobooks for which I recently bought a laptop. I am presently contemplating a set of Sennheiser wireless headphones, large enough to fit over my hearing aids when travelling by train. A local store has one for $189.00AU that looks good and would fit the budget.

Jim I can see your dilemma as looking on Amazon they do have very mixed reviews and only 3* overall. My go to hifi store Richer Sounds does have them on offer at the moment though and they seem to have a good Whathifi recommendation although some other reviews are a bit luke warm...so as I said, I see your dilemma. I'd be interested in what you go with in the end.

If you really enjoy classical music, I suggest that you have to be prepared to pay! On the other hand, there are often opportunities to find 'not the latest' model being sold for a reasonably low price.

This is how I bought my Bose phones and they are a revelation. Not only are the clarity and stereo placing really vivid but the superb noise-cancelling lets you get inside the music without external distractions. It's the old story of 'get the best as you will probably end up paying again, later.'

If you want in ear buds rather than over ear headphones, you could have a look at RHA phones. I have the MA 750's and they are excellent. Designed in Scotland and brilliant service from them as a company.

I've used Sennheiser headphones for years and i've listened to so many in the last year or so as I wanted a change (my current ones are 20 yrs old!) but none come up to the musical standard that I would want or that my 20 year old ones give me..they nearly always get great reviews...i've listened to the Sony's and i was unimpressed but each to his own I think.

Thanks for the replies.

I've gone off the Sony's. There are an awful lot of 'like new' ones on Ebay, which suggest that there are a lot of returns and user dissatisfaction. I also share Mark's wariness of buying Sony, as I've seen reports of dire after sales support.

I'll give it more consideration.
