I've noticed in photos and videos of young Australian males, that they often have tea towels tucked into their waist bands.
What's this all about? Is it because they're being prepared to be ultra considerate guests and ready to do the drying up without being asked?
Jim
OK, is it 'Odd Australian' fashion or Australian 'odd fashion'?
Ya ganna havta show us mate!
Maybe you're talking about the flannel shirt tied around their waist (or something like that) that hangs down?

When we had a young Australian guest last year, he had a tea towel tucked in his waist band. I didn't ask about it though. I've also seen youngsters on youtube with them.
There's several in this Sydney 'flashmob':

Our visitor also wore a cap with a small peak on the side. We rarely saw him without it - day and night. I joked with my wife that he probably needed to have it surgically removed in a 'hatectomy'. He was very vain!
I have to say I have also seen the odd occurrence of it too. I guess I'll have to research it more.

You mean to say you don't wear a tea towel or a cap with the peak on the side?

Nah! Just a kilt on the 'odd' occasion.
I prefer my flat cap worn the traditional way too.

Funnily enough, the last time I saw someone wearing a kilt 'in the wild' was on the summit of Ben MacDui in Scotland. They also were Australians and not really dressed for the Scottish hills. They went off the 'difficult way' down into the Lairig Ghru pass. I've often wondered whether their bones are whitening amongst the rocks there!

That's a funny story, but this world is made up with some 'odd' people, I guess. Rest assured I only go out in that attire for appropriate occasions, but then I'm not afraid to stop for groceries or petrol along the way. There was a Tasmanian that was known as a kilted electrician (I think that was the trade) & he used to attract attention, especially as he also wore one of those so called modern kilts with pockets & front rivets. To each their own, I guess.
What I do remember that was totally ridiculous in fashion was the wearing of pants (jeans) beneath the bum cheeks. Unfortunately it took some time for that to fade out. I liked my flairs & high heal shoes of my youth but this fashion statement with the jeans falling down was such a joke.
