I have just been standing outside in the garden for about 20 minutes to see if there is any sign of the Perseid Meteor Shower. The skies are beautifully clear here tonight but unfortunately I didn't have any success and have merely ended up with a sore neck. I think there are just too many street lamps here these days. Has anybody else had more luck than me?
That's better. I have just had another go and this time succeeded in seeing three shooting stars, while looking north-east and fairly low down. The only trouble is I now have a sore neck and a couple of insect bites.
Your first outing may have been a bit early Ron - the Starwatch column in today's Grauniad said it would be best from midnight onwards. I've just been out into my suburban garden and spotted three reasonable trails plus a few transient flashes, despite various neighbours still having lights on.
13 in half an hour... but none on a photograph ....and midges are nocturnal!
I imagine you have some excellent dark skies on Shetland, Crimbo - just the job for viewing meteor showers. I went out and had one last 'fix' before going to bed and saw four more. One of them was very spectacular, leaving a definite trail of 'sparks' in its wake. A wonderful natural event.
I think I am still suffering from Jet lag - I brought home a 12mm f/2.0 with the intention of pointing an E-P5 at the sky after midnight but I was asleep on the sofa by 9PM
Clear sky here but four hours before it'll be dark and we're surrounded by trees so don't have much sky visible.
I can't see it from here either.

We've got a trampoline in the garden that has hardly seen any use since the kids grew up and moved away. It's perfect for lying on to watch the stars. We saw about 20 meteors in the space of 30 minutes last night, (but none when the camera shutter was open!!). No sore necks - and no midges either.
And the ISS flew overhead as well!

We were watching last night and I mentioned to wee Logan that I thought the thing that went across that was not a plane and was not a shooting star might have been the ISS but I was not 100%
Here you go Greg - how to impress your family. Tonight at approximately 22.11h and 50 secs you say "If you all give me a pound each I'll make the ISS appear...."
