  • Blocked IP?

2 days ago I posted a message and the tried to edit it (I had misspelled a word). On saving the edited message I got an error message returned and since then my machine (at home) has not been able to access e-group.uk.net or fourthirds-user.com. Whenever I try to access this site I get a timeout saying the site is not responding.

Same thing all yesterday and this morning. Logged in from work (naughty) with no problem and started to send a PM to Ian but got distracted. Now its working fine. What's up?

BTW, I did a search for "blocked" (looking for "blocked IP" or similar) before deciding to send a PM and it did not come back with anything useful. I know I have seen similar threads before - maybe I was just searching for the wrong word or in the wrong forum.

    Re: Blocked IP?

I believe OlyPaul had this issue, you may have been caught up in a range ban on your IP.

Thanks Kyle. I'm locked out again.
Have PM'd Ian to see if my IP is persona non grata.

Been having a few problems today on the server - I have asked the server bods to find out if your IP address is blocked for some reason.

There is no block but some security caches have been flushed - this might fix things; can you try again?

I haven't been able to open new threads for a couple of days, I keep getting a http 400 Bad Request error.

Yes it is Ian. But for an unknown reason after I posted about the Bad Request error I stopped getting them.

Ummm... still blocked when I log in from home but if I take my machine to work (so using a different ISP) I have no problems.

This might sound too simple, but have you tried powering down your home modem for 10 seconds which should clear its cache? For some of the errors (like 404 etc.) this has usually (or is that sometimes?) cleared it straight away for me (I think). Last week I got impatient with the slowness of doing a similar edit & clicked on the 'SAVE' a second time & after that, that particular post couldn't be corrected. I can't remember (as last week was busy at home), but I might have tried the modem reset a little later with success (because I did correct it a little later). Sorry, but my memory isn't as sharp as it used to be.

                        Re: Blocked IP?

Ross, I had it powered down overnight thinking the ISP might even expire the IP address and give me a different one but it powered up with the same one. For all I know the IP could be assigned on a permanent lease but it was worth a try. Thanks for the idea though.

Sorry Kyle, no joy with these settings. I wasn't expecting much though as I generally use the dynamic domain name server option and I can resolve e-group.uk.net (eg via ping or tracert) as well as access any othe web site. Even typing the IP address in the browser address bar doesn't help.

Ian has pulled the rabbit out of the hat and I can log in from home again. Yipee.
