  • Sarah Pipelina

Three nuns find themselves outside the Pearly Gates with St. Peter already in attendance. "Welcome my children to heaven. Before you enter for ever, you can each return back to earth and have one wish fulfilled to whatever your heart's desire." Each wish will last for just 14 day's, after which, you will return here and enter for eternity through these gates into heaven.

The first nun, an Italian, asked if it were possible to go back in time to meet Michelangelo in the 16th century and watch him at work on the roof of the Sistine Chapel. "Your wish is granted" said St. Peter and with a wave of his hand the first nun disappeared.

The second nun, from Iceland, asked if, after a life of servitude, she could spend two weeks on a sun drenched exotic island and be waited on hand and foot and come back with a fantastic tan? "Your wish is also granted" said St. Peter, and again, with a wave of his hand, the second nun disappeared.

The third nun, in halting english, asked if she could spend two weeks as Sarah Pipelina?

Sarah Pipelina??? "Hmm, I don't think we have a Sarah Pipelina on our books, but I'll check, just to be sure."

After a thorough check, St. Peter confirmed that there was no record of anyone with that name. "I'm sorry", said St Peter, "but with no record it will be impossible to grant your wish unless you have something to confirm the details."

The last remaining nun reach into a pocket and pulled out a piece of newspaper and passed it to St. Peter... who read - Sahara Pipeline laid by 250 men in two weeks.
It's not what inspires us that is important, it's where the journey takes us.

        Re: Sarah Pipelina

Could this lady be related to, a cousin of perchance, the renowned Victoria Linay. Yes, that's the one, made the same headlines around the time of the opening of the light blue London Underground line which runs from Brixton to Walthamstow. The one whose construction was completed ....

        You get the idea.

It's an old joke. In fact, I suspect that Victoria was also a relation of the esteemed mid-nineteenth century Greek Orthodox bishop ... Metropolitan Linay but the press cuttings about him are very fragile and hard to read.

        Thankfully

I am embarrased to say I hear that joke in 1968.

Yeah, but just because they're old doesn't mean they're not good (or funny).

You should be thankful for small mercies... the memory is still OK!
