    Re: Robbed

The possibility of something like this happening scares the s**t out of me. I have everything covered by my household insurance but it only covers kit in my car if it isn't left unattended, to cover it otherwise would cost a mint. I was once accosted, while doing wildlife stuff on the banks of Loch Kinord, by a fisherman with a unusual accent asking how much my E5 plus 300mm f2.8 was worth! I declined to comment and beat a hasty retreat, he had a big mate with a gaff. I am afraid that in the current economic climate I tend not to trust anybody whom I don't know.

        Re: Robbed

Jamie very sorry to hear this - look and set up a search on eBay it is the most likely place they will sell it, or the local pubs ! THIS time of year its often to fund Christmas Presents/Food or Drugs

I learned this way a long time ago at Lumley Castle in Chester-Le-Street - I pulled up at Reception, checked in, got my key and reversed up to my "Stables room" took my handbag; flowers(!) and fab leather jacket in - put the flowers in a sink of water - came out NOT 2 MINS LATER and my buddy new car was gone ... it was found 45 mins later in a Coachpark, the Cabriolet hood; 2 wiring looms; Alloy Wheels and Recaro seats; Stereo and Speaker CUT OUT - GONE ! (the spare alloy wheel in the boot was gone - they acetalene cut the boot open to get it out

NOW I NEVER LEAVE my Camera & kit in the car - even if I have to drag Ali Case/Bag of it around shops and into a restaurant ! .. and I never have bought a new car since that

A nightmare for sure - sorry to hear that!
This is a reminder for me, that I am doing just right, to carry my gear always with me and not to leave it in the car -at anytime.

Good luck and hope for the best!

Sorry to hear your story Jamie. I was paranoid about leaving my gear in the car before, I'll be even more so now.

Very sorry to hear this Jamie, especially as you are not covered under any insurance.
Best of luck with trying to track you kit down. I wonder whether it's worth you posting your serial numbers here so that we can all try and keep an eye out for you too?

                  bugger!

There is no real answer other than don't leave kit in the car.

I think the title of the thread should read 'burgled', doesn't robbery involve your own physical presence?

This thread has brought out some good website links and smartwater hints, thanks fellas.

I just re insured my motorbikes last week and today have a parcel from Carole Nash Bike Insurers of Smart Water for each of the bikes

I just thought DID you register you kit with the Olympus database ?
Also search Gumball and Preloved they are like eBay ! IF you suspect ask them to send you a photo - to check quality of the images it takes ... and you can check the serial no. in the exif data ?

                            Re: Robbed

Thanks all for your kind responses - that's what I like about this forum - people as extremely friendly.
I'm still upset about it but I've calmed down. I'm kicking myself about not having insurance cover - that's now been sorted - though stable door and horse comes to mind.
I've been rediscovering my E-600 and whilst it's no E-3 it is still a great camera. Having played with the G3 today at lunchtime I think I can say I wouldn't want anything smaller than the E-600 (with battery grip) - my hands are too big. I think I might start by re-investing in 14-54 and 50-200 first before looking at an E-3/E-30 or who knows Santa might see his way to a 2nd hand E-5 (did someone say rocking horse s**t).

I had registered the E-3 on the Olympus database and the police have the serial number now. I have also registered it on the immobilise website that Bill (Peak4) suggested so we'll see if anything comes of it.

I'm trying to look on the bright side of things and at least I had it for my daughters wedding at the start of the month. She didn't want a pro wedding photographer and the useable images I captured and those of my sister(though she did use a Nikon) have been very well received.

I'd still cut their fingers off if I ever got hold of the buggers though.

Sadly if the socially challenged offender is caught you will not even have the satisfaction of receiving a set of finger nails that the police should remove as part of the interview of the scrote.

The police may not even tell you that the guilty party was chastised with a feather and sent off to help in the local community.

                                Hi Jamie,

Just came across this thread and I'd like to add my condolences, especially as you'd had the 50-200 for so little time. Here is the serial number, if you think it'll do any good: 060202275

                                Cheers
