Yesterday I had my car broken into and my camera bag with my E-3/14-54/50-200 was stolen. The bag was not in view - hidden by the parcel shelf but the rear offside window was smashed the parcel shelf moved and the bag stolen. The police didn't even turn up and called me back to book an appointment at 1pm today. It was at a local park entrance about 1/2km from the nearest housing. It's a parking area for dog walkers and there were about another 12 cars but mine was the only one broken into. I had only left my bag as it had started to rain by the time I got there with the dog - otherwise I'd have been carrying it as normal. The bag wasn't in sight at anytime during parking.
2 weeks ago I sold my E-410 and 70-300 to finance the 50-200mm. So I've gone from having 3 E-Systems cameras to one in that space of time. I'm back to using my E-600 with the 14-42 and 40-150mm.

Sorry to hear this. It's always gut-wrenching when this sort of thing happens. I very much doubt that you'll get the stuff back, but perhaps your insurance will cover you?

What about house contents insurance? Mine covers me for camera stuff in the car.

Unfortunately I'm not covered there either. It's a painful lesson learned.

Sorry to hear about that. If you have the serial numbers, head over to Immobilise.com and register them as missing.
Many police forces use it for checks on any suspect items recovered in their investigations.

                Anyone had experiences of it?

BT Openreach have started using it to deter cable theft , so if it's good enough for them I would think it's good enough for us.

I bought 40,000 licences for it about 10 years ago when I was IT Security Manager for a major council. The police apparently scan everyone they pull in for it on their hands and clothes, as well as recovered goods. Can't say we had much stuff recovered though.

Very sorry to hear that Jamie. These thieving B*%$&$%s will likely sell the kit and use the proceeds to fund drug habits. It's so bloody annoying that these s***s have the arrogance to think it they can help themselves to other people's property. They will probably get peanuts for it from some other sod who is just as guilty accepting what they must know is stolen property. I keep all my Olympus equipment registered on the Olympus website, so at least I know where to find my serial numbers.

I didn't know about the immobilise website, thanks for that peak4.

I wish for a happy ending to this for you but somehow I don't think that's likely.

                        Regards,

                            Homer,
I'm an IT manager and we use it on our laptops and desktops including memory modules. All our devices are stickered to say they have been smart watered. It doesn't stop memory being stolen regularly.

Just an update Strathclyde Police called at 1255 to cancel the 1300 appointment as they had no officers available. Could I re-schedule but there would be no guarantee that it would not be cancelled again. I ended up doing the crime report over the telephone. What are we - the hard working honest people of this country - paying our taxes for?
