The well-known rumour site has today published a rumour that Olympus has developed an E-50 to replace the E-30 and that it should be on the market in the next couple of months.
Don't get too excited, it is just a rumour..... but you never know!

Not sure if I like the idea or not. On the one hand another Olympus DSLR added to a range of one, on the other hand if it's good and not to expensive I may well end up handing over my hard earned cash!
I think we need an E50 to bring back some more faith in the regular 4/3s & I hope it can be a test bed for a new sensor like the E30 was. We can keep wishing & hoping. Not everybody has a need for the heavier weather sealed body of the E5 & also not everyone can afford that much either.

I would prefer to see an updated E-620, personally.

That's what I was getting at, an updated E-620 with an improved viewfinder rather than something that's nearly the size and weight of the E-5 without the build quality.
It's the image that's important, not the tools used to make it.
I believe Olympus need to introduce a DSLR at an affordable price tag to stay credible as a consumer market player.
I would personally think that E620++ (E720?) would be a more attractive offering (size, weight) but I guess the market research people at Olympus know what they are doing, if E50 is what we believe it is.
My wish list:
Larger viewfinder with higher magnification
Sensor with improved high ISO performance
F button possible to customize to assign useful functionalities
Means to save camera settings as "Custom" (same way as it works on Canon Powershot)

I do hope it's true. I've owned Canon, Nikon and Panasonic DSLR cameras and only recently bought into the Olympus system. I love the lenses and really hope they do continue with the 4/3's bodies. While their pro lenses work on micro 4/3's the AF is painfully slow!
Earlier in the year I saw an Oly patent for a "flapping translucent mirror" - this would have about 30% of the light directed downwards onto a phase detect AF system but move out of the way to provide 100% of the light for image taking. Of course it would only work with a built in EVF and the full 4/3 flange to sensor distance.
I was just wondering if such a system would make a suitable E620 successor.
I would personally think that E620++ (E720?) ...Larger viewfinder with higher magnification

If they were to make an E620 replacement mirrorless, then there is the opportunity to fit a quality EVF. Once that decision is made you could play with the magnification to give the E620 a good big (admittedly electonic) viewfinder. This is the one thing that annoys me about the '620..

Look, I'm an old man. I shouldn't be expected to put up with this.

This I do like the idea of as it can have a much larger view finder than Exxx could ever offer... could also offer a "high speed" mode where the transparent mirror stays where it is and the image quality takes the 30% less light knock.
