I rencently bought a non-swd version in here, absolutely wonderful lens.

Shame as I'd pretty much sorted funds but I do need the SWD version for the better focusing speed with my newly aquired E3.

I've see reports that the focus speed is not very different between SWD and non-SWD versions.

Just an update on this for anybody interested.

I have just spoken to SRS and they say they are not the SWD version after all.

Shame as I'd pretty much sorted funds but I do need the SWD version for the better focusing speed with my newly aquired E3. Getting into sailing shots from my RIB so I need the weatherproofing of the combo plus rapid AF.

Just spotted this on the dpreview site:

"Someone tested the 50-200 SWD against the old 50-200 on an E3 or E5 and found the lenses had the same focus speed using SAF. It only appears faster because instead of a long 'whooosh' it goes 'zip' but then does a hundred micro adjustments."

Thanks for that Jim. That whole thread is generally an interesting read. Does make me wonder if the non SWD version would fulfill my needs and at a cheaper price.
