  • Churchill pt 4 - Northern Lights

First attempt at NL and timelapse. Definitely some things I would do differently, but this was pretty epic for me.

That's really cool - done on your phone?

The motion is faster than I remember based on the speed of the passing cars.

Timelapse done on the OM1mkii - camera did all the work 350ish .5 sec exposures processed in camera.

I asked about if it was done on your phone because it's vertical format, which of course 'shorts' on YouTube requires (annoyingly!)

That's one of the things I would do differently. The 'action' was happening up high, so I though a vertical composition would be more interesting. I also was concerned about the about the light levels, so I was using the 12 mm f/2. I probably could have gone with the 8-24 at f/4 and shot horizontally. I would have set up another timelapse, but Churchill has a curfew at 10:00pm in bear season - they sound the siren to let you know it is time to go inside. Hopefully I'll see them again and get another try! I also though after the fact that LiveComp could have made a really interesting photograph.

      Nice, just seen this.

I didn't know the OM-1 Mk ii could do portrait video for time lapse. Makes sense for capturing a scene like this if the lens is not really wide.
