The TG-4 had a 16mp sensor. Apparently, the size was reduced to achieve less noise...My TG-5 is a super camera, it has ProCap etc Unsure I am seeing a massive improvemnt. The internal software is probably faster...
I got the announcement email. I don't really see what it has over the TG-6. Maybe they have used up all the 6's in their John Bull printing set so they need to stick "7" labels on the remaining stock
My TG-5 is a whiz camera, but also has the 12mp sensor. Not too cropable alas...
Mark, you often mention your beloved 12mp TG-5. (2017) I see from its specs that it has many advanced features that my beloved 12mp XZ-2 (2012) does not have. As a matter of interest, do you know how the two cameras stack up with regards to image quality, especially with regard to close ups; take for example my recent "Bee-autiful" images @ https://www.e-group.uk.net/forum/for...ful#post943308
And btw, Sandra and I are heading off for a getaway, mid October, to South Australia where I will try to restore some of my old photo-mojo with the XZ-2, and M1-Mkii for movies. Sandra also uses an XZ-2; she is a startlingly good toger, but sadly, not a forum freak!
Hi Mark. I have never seen the XZ-2, but I see your photos taken with it. Nice..Difficult to be absolutely certain, but I am sure in the right conditions, the TG-5/6/7 would match those. My TG-5 features GPS, ProCap, and of course is an underwater camera. It is a handy size for your pocket. It is often my camera of choice when I used to hike up the Welsh Mountains...
Thanks Mark, I have not seen a TG-5 in the flesh; if it fits in the pocket, then it can't be much bigger than an XZ-2. The TG-5's extra features, pro-cap, GPS etc., well, being the tech dummy I am, I never did figure how they worked on my M1-mkii so will probably leave it at home and take only the XZ-2 on next month's getaway. For show 'n tell, it would have been great to have GPS data embedded in my pics, instead of a general location link.
Hi Jeff--I got ALL the lenses I need bar 1 and that is the 90mm macro of which I will buy when I sell my 60mm/30mm/45/ as I'll not need them three. I enter competitions with the wpf/pagb/rps so 25mpix would be far advantageous than 20mpix. I crop mine on occasion to a quarter, sometimes half, then I use another program to enhance the final picture. I also Print for Presentations. YES, 20mpix is enough for 95% of images, and will satisfy a lot of photographers.

It seems the sensor is a smaller 1/2.3” CMOS sensor (though should be a later series than earlier compacts using that size) & not the larger 1/1.7" CMOS sensor size in the Stylus 1 & XZ2 (listed as 1.7" CMOS sensor in the User Manual).
Ross"I fiddle with violins (when I'm not fiddling with a camera)". My Flickr OM-1, E-M1 Mk II plus 100-400mm f5-6.3 IS, 7-14, 12-40 & 40-150 f2.8 Pro lenses, MC14 & 20.
There are now BSI (back side illuminated) & stacked (like the OM-1 sensor) available from Sony in the 1/2.3" 12MP sensor now, in other words better performing noise wise than earlier sensors, particularly in small sensors such as these.
