  • Not a workshop I would get to.....

... but no doubt there are others that would (if in Sydney) as shown in today's post (NSFW).

Len Metcalf is a photographer in the Blue Mountains that is respected & has talked at our local photography club, inviting us to receive his Daily Inspirations photos by email. I receive them, but some are NSFW though (as viewed on his web page). He does seem to like a lot of monochrome & landscapes, so some of his work may interest others here & he does use some Olympus gear too.

Somehow I not sure my wife would feel happy for me to go to 'that' workshop though.

Here is something nice (& safe) being a landscape. http://lenmetcalf.com/len-metcalf/20...katoomba-falls

He certainly loves his black and white, some might say a little too much.

Not keen on all the monochrome - some of the subjects are just crying out for colour. I mean, 'Sun Orchid' in mono! I'm surprised he doesn't have a rainbow in mono!

Mono can work and work well, but not as often as he seems to think it does. Scrolling down the main page just seems to go on and on in mono and when the occasional colour one appears it really stands out, and yes Jim you’re right there are so many crying out for colour. A few too that if they were in colour you wouldn’t give a second look too.

Totally in agreement with the above three posts. The cynic in me suspects there is method in his madness? Perhapts to get people talking, so his name gets passed about more than usual?
It's not what inspires us that is important, it's where the journey takes us.

Yeah, I agree that some of those photos I would prefer colour. Also some of his 'blurry' landscape shots don't 'inspire' me either.

I general I liked his work. So his style is mono - at least it's his "signature". The nude shot in the first link is very nice - good lighting and pose; but that bottle of water on the cabinet in the background really needs cloning out!

And the fan too. I thought they were careless oversights in that photo (says me, a mere wannabe amateur , not to mention my own untidy habits ), but I do think they detract from the photo though.

Yes, I agree monochrome is his "signature". It would be boring if we all turned out the same types of photos, so it is refreshing seeing different styles of works from others, even if we may not necessarily like them, it still can get us to think about various aspects of photography.
