  • Back up camera idea again o

At the moment discounted a e.m1x due to weight , but been looking at the omd.em5mkiii as a lightweight back up to fit the 60mm macro to . It seems to tick all the boxes any user experiences good points or bad to look for

I have the em5mkiii and it is small enough that without a lens I can fit it in my pocket. The 60mm macro can fit in another pocket. It has only 1 C Mode on the Mode Dial and you can only create and save 3 C Mode settings and you can't backup any of the settings as you can with the OM-1. It doesn't have a joystick but that never bothered me. I like the em5mkiii and continue to use it along with my OM-1. At times I have carried both using neck and wrist straps rather than changing lenses.

Well was just about to push the button on one ,when I read another advert where he had stuck the grip rubber back down . Googled it and it’s a problem on these bodies it seems .. having very oily skin I have suffered this problem a few times before and it’s a big no no for me .. so i will now have a rethink

Yeah sat on the fence tween a 5mkiii or a e.m1x .. ,I like the sound of the light weight but also like the toughness of the m1x having had one before plus I’m not that careful these days . Heads spinning at the moment

Well Jeff, You know how good that E-M1X is. You can't go wrong. Buy a chest harness so you can rest your arms when needed.

Yes indeed I do Dennis , lots of going through old files done before I pushed the button . It was a bit more than I wanted to spend but there’s no cheaper options that are good enough .

I would have thought that with prices being so low these days, a used OM1i would have been the best bet as a backup camera. But I believe that you already have one. My guess is that you have no need for a back up, more that you need something interesting to play with. I feel the same sometimes; nothing wrong with that if it keeps you happy.

Yes indeed Kenny but a few hundred quid more , and your assumption is probably bang on 😎😎🥳

A 'back up' camera is usually one that you only use as a back up when needed due to emergency or failure. Surely it's a second body with another lens mounted so you don't have to faff around changing lenses outdoors.

I view every camera body as merely a control module for a lens ~ The choice of lens comes first every time.
