  • Topaz DeNoise

    Hi everyone,

I purchased Topaz a few years ago. Recently it has updated itself to the latest trial version and tries very hard to get me to pay $199 for the upgrade. I don't want the upgrade, I want to be able to use the version I've already paid for. I managed to find out how to reinstate the earlier version and followed their instructions. Result? Nothing works at all now. I don't have access to the new version, which is fair enough as I haven't paid for it, and won't, and the earlier version that I have paid for doesn't work. The shortcut is there, on my desktop, but doesn't do anything. I'm left feeling that Topaz are holding a gun to my head trying to force me to buy what I don't want and have robbed me of what I have paid for and do want .

Has anybody else experienced this and, if so, how did you resolve it?

    Regards

    Derek

PS. I have contacted Topaz and asked them but no reply as yet.

I was sold the plugins "for life" and can dowload again whenever I like.

    Go to https://topazlabs.com/my-account/orders/

    On this page:

Navigate your Topaz Labs account with ease. Your account includes links to every app you own, access to past invoices, upgrade options, upgrade status and more.

Click on "Access Previous Orders and Invoices"

    Then:

    "invoices for past topazlabs.com orders"

    Click on "my products" link.

Then select and downoad the required instalment exe

I think I have got this right.

Thanks Harold, this worked perfectly and I'm now up and running. Not sure I trust Topaz not to do it again though.

      Cheers

I stopped using Topaz a few years ago when they kept on updating to versions I didn't like as much as the old ones. Lightroom improved at the same time so I went with that. Now Lightroom has started to play the same game with their latest update 🤔 .

Sounds about right for commercial software these days.

One area where Darktable is a bit behind commercial software is in de-noising but you might only notice the difference if pixel peeping, which is a very bad habit.
      Best wishes

A decade or two ago I used Noise Ninja, which looked like I had used coarse sandpaper.

Topaz got back to me with the same information that Harold gave me… but several hours later. Yet another strike for the folks of this forum

I gave up using Topaz denoise a while back - too many artefacts for my liking. I use DxO PureRAW now which to my eyes gives more natural results. I set sharpening to 'soft' - anything more is too much.
