I doubt that the sharpness will be much different. They're both f2.8 of course. The only advantage of the 60mn is if you want macro. If you do macro only occasionally then the Raynox 250 diopter adapter works very well with the 35-100 lens and is a pretty cheap option. .

Shame as I have purchased the 60mm. I guess I was convinced a prime lens (and macro to boot) would be demonstrably sharper than a 3x zoom. Oh well, I got it for a good price and my macro technique needs improving.

I shouldn't worry. It's a very good macro lens and ifyou don't like it they are usually easy to sell second hand.

The Olympus 60mm macro is a very highly regarded lens and I should be very surprised if it doesn't out-perform the zoom. I don't know what your photographic interests are but I use mine for flower photography and find it superb.

I have done a lot of macro, over many years, with macro supplementary lenses on the front of primes. Either a Raynox (I use the MSN-202) or a Marumi +5 Achromat will give you excellent results with either lens. The longer the focal length of the lens to which it is attached, the more magnification you get from any supplementary. (The MSN is meant for 100mm +).

Excellent choice, you could stick a cheapy auto extension tube behind it for even more mag.

You could also use the tubes with your 35-100 this will give you mag at greater working distance.

The only thing that drives me nuts on occasions with the Oly is the focus limiter, I always seem to have the wrong range selected.

The Panny 45mm macro OTOH, has step-less focusing, both exceptional lenses, in reviews it's usually the Oly that comes out tops.

The 35-100 is not a macro lens. and the minimum focusing distant is around 3". But if you add a raynox like pdk42 suggest or like me, a macro stacker rings. Unlike Raynox, with macro rings, all your lenses becomes macro.
