  • Camera bag for the 150-400mm

Who uses what? I do have the K&F Concept bag, which the lens and camera just fit. Big enough to include the 12-100mm as well. But it is a bit of a brute with the shoulder straps........

I use a thinktank Glass Limo. I bought it originally for my Canon 1dx and 500mm lens. It now fits an OM-1 on the 150-400, another OM-1 body and 12-40 lens, plus my binoculars and the 90mm macro if needed. It easily fits within airline standard carry on sizes and also doesn't look too big. I can't remember when I bought it, but it must have been nearly 10 years ago.

I have a waist one just for camera and 150-600mm lens but it will not fit with the Bigger foot attached and the lens hood on. Pain taking the hood off all the time. Now in a different shoulder bag and Nothing else in bag.

What sort of usage is it for?

I have a big LowePro 400 Flipside pack but it’s also a brute for a day trip or walk. I mostly use it for transporting all my gear in the car on cottage holidays.

What I’ve discovered recently is the lens + camera fits snuggly inside my Osprey Daylite 13 litre daypack I got for walking so I’ve been using that for day trips or a walk where I might want the lens + camera packed away at some point. There are some side pockets that will take a lens like the 12-40mm and a small front compartment that will hold a few small bits and bobs like TCs and a snack bar.

      This one:

It’s not a photo specific pack so not a lot of padding. I put a woolly hat over the camera end to protect that inside the bag. It was about £60 from Cotswold Outdoor and I also got a discount on it with National Trust membership. Added advantage - you don’t look like you’re walking about with ~ £8k of photo gear…until there’s a sickening crunch as you drop it on the ground having forgotten that!

Might be worth checking in a shop first, it’s not a pack the unzips wide open to put the gear in so a bit more fiddly than a photo pack.

If something is marketed as a camera bag it cost at least four times more than it should :-) When I just want to go on my bike to take the OM +150-400 attached I use a £30 rutsack at it works well

That certainly looks and costs good.

My use really is just transportation in the car. Otherwise the camera is on my shoulder.....

        Thanks Bill...

I use it in the car too. Although if I’m just popping up to a reserve on my own the camera + lens are on the passenger seat with the seat belt across hooked under the tripod foot. This pack would be good for biking too!

I've got a Thinktank Mindshift Backlight Sprint 15Litre version(long name for a bag). It can just fit the camera with the 150-400 and MC14 attached with the hood reversed. It has additional space and would probably for the 12-100mm as well (but I use the space for other things). It has good straps and waist band, nice external pockets (water bottle, lightweight tripod). The bonus is it very close to the maximum dimensions you can carry-on to a typical Australian airline flight.
MJ224 like you I use the passenger seat with the seatbelt looped around the tripod foot in the car.

MJ224 Oh yes it is BDennis that uses the seatbelt on the tripod foot approach like me.

I recently purchased a Peak Design 45l + large cube for mine - very adaptable and customisable. Several colour options too. Shopped around and got it at a reasonable price (at my local camera shop). The straps can all be tucked away for convenience, quite ingenious.
