  • SOLVED Help please

I have removed the tripod mount from the Olympus 100-400 and replaced it with the decorative ring . to cover the little silvery metal bits (whatever they are). Unfortunately I cannoy get the ring to stay in place. Any suggestions?

Does it have grooves on the inside to slide over the little metal studs that hold the tripod ring in place? I seem to remember that is the case with the 40-150.

Yes the ring goes over the studs but does not click in place . It creeps back anti clockwise

What I have done after searching through my bits and bobs drawer is find some thin tape, rather like a brown sellotape. This I have stuck all the way round to the inside of the decoration ring meaning the shiny none adhesive side is facing the actual lens. Fortunately the tape is narrow enough to not interfere with the slots as that would mean a fiddly trimming job. The result is that there is enough friction to stop that awaful creep but the ring is readily removed if necessary to put the tripod foot back on. The tape could obviously be easily removed or renewed if needs be. So far so very good.

You slide the ring over the small studs (bits) then rotate the ring, at the point it stops, continue to rotate to overcome the snap point which locks into position. I am assuming you have the Olympus ring

Thanks Paul I was in that usual situation of being careful not to break anything. I now have it snapped in position - and I can also get off!

Now I feel stoooopid! Cleaned off my tape and tried Pauls method and hey presto all is perfect. Thanks Paul. I had realised the dot marks were not properly aligned and had tried force to get them to align but not hard enough. I was afraid of breaking the ring so had given up.

Nothing like being extra cautious though.

I don't know if they're all the same but it's devil of a job to get the lens hood on and off my 4/3 12-60 which also "snaps" into place!
                Regards

Use pencil lead (graphite) on that lens hood for safer & easier use.

I find proper 3M Silicone spray applied on a soft, clean cloth works well to lubricate the sliding lens hoods on my 40-150 and 60 macro. I thought of using pencil lead, but wondered if applying dust was such a good idea…
