  • HELP! EC20 teleconverter help

Having an issue with my recently acquired EC20 and my 70-300. If I take a photo below roughly halfway (150mm) all is well. However I tried it above that, at various focal lengths, and I get nothing. The camera behaves as though it is taking a photo - except the red light comes on for about 5 seconds. When I try and "playback" the image, it says NO IMAGE ( I started with a blank card). Strange, as below that length it is fine. This makes me think I am doing something incorrectly rather than a defective unit. I have had an EC20 before, but I don't recall this happening? I tried turning off then on again, re-mounting the lenses , etc. I am now at a loss. This also occurs with my 14-42 lens.

    Can anyone help?

    I'm using an E410.

    Re: EC20 teleconverter help

Don't know if there's any firmware in the EC-20 but you could try a firmware update with one of the lenses and the EC-20 connected to your camera and see if it reports a version and if there is an update. If there is an update it could kick it back into life. Just a thought.

Edit: Sorry just connect the EC-20 to the camera body, no other lens (you can't update with 2 lenses attached). I just checked my EC-20 and upgraded from ver 1.0 to 1.1.

I know you cannot use the EC 20 on the 70-300 when on a E600 or E620.
At least that was what I was told, so I bought the EC14.

        Re: EC20 teleconverter help

I had one about a year ago and it worked fine. I sold it, and regretted it! So I bought another. And am struggling with the bugger!!

Firmware is all up-to-date. Will phone Olympus tomorrow.

          Re: EC20 teleconverter help

I think you're hoping for a lot using it with the 70-300 lens because the AF would struggle with less light on the AF sensors, especially on the E410 (with auto focus possible from EV0 - EV19 when something like the E30 is EV-2 - EV19). I believe I am pushing it by using the EC14 with it. Are you using MF or AF?

I have tried MF and AF, both with no joy. I take your point about the autofocus struggling, I've noticed this issue.

However I am more concerned with the fault!

            Thanks anyway.
