  • Ec 14

I recently added an EC 14 (after trying to pick one up for several weeks)

Can anyone add comments on the use of this. I primarily purchased it for my 70-300mm and my 50mm macro.

I understand that the 70-300mm will be limited to good light conditions with the EC14.

How else can I use the EC14??

    My lenses are currently
    50mm
    14-54mm
    70-300mm

I plan on selling my EX25 and 40-150mm now that I have the above

Is it useful to use the 14-54 with my EC 14 - producing a 20-75mm - and thus bridging the gap to my 70-300mm, which can double up as a 100-420mm

I have been tryig to get a 50-200mm and thinking about a 50-500mm bigma at some point. Any thoughts/experience/suggestions would be gratefully received.

I found the EC14 to be excellent and the best tele converter I have ever used. It has almost no bad effect on the image, and makes the ZD50 into a very reasonable 70mm f2.8 (Olympus say you shouldn't use it with the ZD50 wide open - but I didn't find any problems).

I also used it with the 14-54 and the 40-150 and each time it delivered the goods.

Look, I'm an old man. I shouldn't be expected to put up with this.

I use my EC-14 behind legacy glass most of the time. Used behind the Tamron 90mm macro it allows more working distance. Used behind the OM 350mm it gives me a 500mm f/4.
It's the image that's important, not the tools used to make it.

        Hi Richard

The EC-14 is a perfect companion to the 50-200. There is a sticky post about this combo compared to the 70-300 on the Telephoto lens section.

The EC-14 and the Bigma renders 708mm, which at a first glance sounds impressive, however expect some softness and there may be issues with the AF struggling and dark viewfinder at F/8.9. (The Bigma is slightly soft in the longest range, not an issue as such but accentuated with the EC14).

          Re: Ec 14

I use both the EC14 and the 70-300 for wildlife. Certainly hunts the AF in low light but living in OZ and in Canberra we get many highg light days even in winter.

But did find it frustrating on the weekend when suddenly seeing two wedgetail eagles flying close by and it was very overcast (and windy) and I couldn't get the AF to lock on - wnat I do in these circustances is focus on a large object about the same distance and the take the pic. Doesn't always work - grrrr

But a good combination for birds that sit still.

My suggestion would be to get a 50-200, that lens and the EC-14 were made for each other

                      Re: Ec 14

I have just located an EC-14 at about half the usual asking price on Amazon and have purchased it. I have used TCs (Tamron SP and Kiron, etc.) for decades, with film and now digital. I find the current Olympus prices outrageous, considering that they don't offer a fast lens in their range.

Of course, you are using this with 4/3's lenses only, although OM lenses on a 4/3's adapter might work OK?

I use mine on the Olympus 70-300, 40-150 and Samyang 35mm and 85mm the latter two are fast manual lenses. You need good light for the 7-300, but at 425mm (That's what the camera display says.) it has it's uses.
