Well I bought one, an E-PL5, from SRS. I wanted the 60mm lens, but the more I looked at the PL5 + PM2 the more attactive they baecame. I settled for the PL5 because it had a couple of features I liked. I can't say enough about SRS, they are great. They have spent alot of time with me over the past few months as I would browse different things, (OMD, 60mm, E-PL5), just fantastic service.

I played with it around London learning until the battery died, (SRS gave me a charged one), then on the way home took this...

I'm getting a database error when I try to put the pic in. But it is a picture, (OOC JPG), of a pub, at night, that I thought I had the camera on ISO 6400, it was on MAX ISO, noise reduction off, and filter normal. I am stunned. Being used to the E-30 being speckled with noise at 3200, this camera is clean at 25600! WOW! I took one at 3200 too. I'll post both when I can for all to see.

Just had a look in your gallery and found the pic you are talking about - wow

Don't tell the tradionalists though - you should not be taking photies when there is no light

This is the picture you want to share.


The "My Pics" link is broken (Ian knows about it and is working on it) so you have to do a copy/paste from your gallery. In case you don't know how this works here's the routine;
1/ Select the picture in your gallery and click on it for the full size image.
2/ Below this you will see the "copy code to display this etc." box.
3/ LEFT click on the code to highlight it and then press Ctrl+C to copy.
4/ In your post then RIGHT click where you want to put the image and click Paste.

The shot looks great.
As the E-PL5 has the same sensor as the E-M5 I'm afraid you're just going to have to get used to this sort of performance.

It is a very impresive camera, I havn't used my E5 since I got one, I have yet to see how it fare's with objects that are moving like Steam Trains etc. The site refuses to let me post any piccies-says I have too many on which I don't believe???????????????

I can only envy those with the camera.

The photos at the high ISO look really good, but I somehow think you will be disappointed with using the SWD 50-200 lens on the E-M5 (& PENs). The quality when in focus would have to be really nice, but AF, as I understand it, is fairly frustrating. There is still hope that later M4/3's bodies will be able to use these lenses properly. More camera manufacturers are using on sensor PD-AF (like Fuji & others) & maybe that might be the answer for Olympus yet. This might be possible in a model at the end of this year, but that is just speculation. I don't have any of the SWD lenses but the USM Sigma macro lens & that can't get focus on the E-M5 so it's reserved for my E30 only & that has not done much since I've had the E-M5.

I'm looking forward to seeing more of your photos.

I don't think I will have much luck. The 50-200 just likes to search in and out then focus on what it likes. However, if I get it close to focus on the subject manually it will pick it up quickly. That kinda of suits the type of pictures I take with it. I bought it for airshows and races mainly. I think I can get way with manual focus to infinity with airshows, (hopefully they don't fly closer than 30ft), and focussing on a predetermined point for races. Had a problem with it and the E-30 at the Cosford airshow, it would lose focus on the plane and get the background or search for something, used C-AF and I think that was my problem. Never looked at the distance scale to see where it was.

Not looking to good for the 50-200mm, guess I'll keep the E-30.

Just found the shadow and highlight adjustment, (curves), that I didn't think it had.
