  • I have gone and done it!!!

Just bought into m4/3rds yes the OMD EM5 with kit lens plus the 75mm f1.8, and while I was purchasing, one of the other assistance said have you told him of the new Promo offer from Olympus a 45mm f1.8 portrait lens+ battery and OR HLD 6 + battery just started today, may be Ian can confirm this as it was a bit confusing on the on hand it says 45mm lens + batt or HLD6 + Batt and on the terms and conditions it says 45mm f1.8 lens+ Battery+HLD6 +battery. plus there was no option to choose either.

Going to have a little play tomorrow.

PS any body got a good start up setting, can't find any thing in the menus referancing noise redutcion or noise filter settings for the jpeg's must be missing something somewhere.

I've splurged a little more & bought myself the HLD-6 for mine (it didn't come with any offer here). It's makes a great difference with it.

Here are two web pages for hints on setting up your E-M5.

Hope you have lots of fun with it all.

Well the good news is that the noise performance of the new Sony sensor in the E-M5 is so good you shouldn't need to use any noise reduction/filtering.

This thread of mine gives some examples. http://e-group.uk.net/forum/showthread.php?t=23026

        follow this link http://olympus-omd-freelensgrip.sales-promotions.com/

Looks like it's lens and battery OR grip and battery, sorry. I'm sure you'll enjoy using whichever you pick!

The noise filter is only applying to the jpeg & if you save both jpeg & raw, you will at least have the option to change that afterwards anyhow in a raw converter (OLympus Viewer 2 or other programs). Noise reduction is best left on Auto as it applies dark frame subtraction to long exposures to cancel out the effect from any hots pixels.

This is what's in the menu.

          Menu * G - <=/Color/WB
          Noise Reduct. Auto
          Noise Filter Standard

Page 89 of the manual shows this.

          Noise Reduct.Noise Filter
Choose the amount of noise reduction performed at high
          ISO sensitivities.

Sorry if I have got carried away with myself with all this, but maybe somebody else might find it helpful if you didn't need it.

Congratulations on your new camera Dave
Good advice here on noise reduction.
I shoot Jpeg + RAW all the time and 99% of the time work with RAW files sometimes using the Jpeg as a reference/backup. So for me noise (if it's bothersome) is attended to in PP.
