• E-M1 firmware 3.1 (& E-M5 Mk II) released

The E-M1 3.1 firmware is now released (along with E-M5 Mk II FW 1.2 as promised here in this thread) but be aware, it does reset all the settings except lens AF adjustments as seen in this screen shot.

Also Olympus Viewer 3 has been updated to
1.5 ( Jun 16, 2015 )

- Support for the latest cameras
- Fix a bug.
I've updated my E-M1 & reloaded all the menu settings back in again. It does take a few minutes to do from a saved list, but may take longer if you haven't recorded your settings somewhere.

<sigh> Why do they do that? (undo everything) It's so annoying. Make a camera almost infinitely customisable, so that people can set exactly what they want individually, then undo all their effort every time the firmware is 'improved'.

Is there anything significant in this upgrade that makes it worth the hassle of setting everything back again? If not, I'll be skipping this one...

Sorry, new to the EM1, is there a way to save your settings like on a memory card?

Nope - it's something users have been requesting for a long time...

Anyone got any idea what "Live Boost Funtion 2" does? The other upgrade is of no use to me since I wouldn't know one end of a wet suit from the other!

I agree. I've got my camera tweaked after a long process of experience and improvement. It's not even easy to write the settings down since they're spread all over the menus; and some features like the focus settings vary according to the 2-way controller. Unless an upgrade offers truly useful features I'd prefer to skip it.

It seems to be able to get brighter (than the stardard LV Boost) for darker situations & slows down the screen sampling a lot when using it. It is obviously for tripod MF use only.

Someone else might have a more qualified response than that hopefully.

Re: E-M1 firmware 3.1 (& E-M5 Mk II) released

I thought we had put the losing settings bit behind us after the last firmware upgrade. Clearly I was wrong.

Being in the software business I find it inexcusable that Olympus should do this. Very poor.

At least provide a facility to export/import settings to card or PC even if the developers find it beyond them to do a firmware upgrade in a way other than burn and build which is a crude way of doing it.

Given the listed features I'm in no hurry to upgrade as the thought of having to go through recording and resetting all my customisations again really annoys me.

I've worked hard to be this grumpy. It hasn't been easy at times but it's worth it.

A simple idea is to record your settings (in pencil) in the appropriate box in the manual. You'll always have them ready to put back if needed.

So what was the bug that was fixed with this version? Unless it's a real problem I'm going to skip this one too.

No bug (for E-M1), just additional features as at the top. Also the Global OM-D Facebook page has more about it. https://www.facebook.com/OlympusOMD....type=1&theater

Sometimes in the studio with Black backgrounds, low lighting and dark subjects, I use the live view boost, so having completed the update I'll try it out next Sunday...
