  • Using your mobile phone as a remote control

Hi. I have just had a garden shoot using my mobile phone connected to the M1 Mk2 as a remote control. The Oly was on a tripod. After half a dozen shots I wanted to change some settings before taking more shots. When you start to make the changes it boots the camera out of "connected to phone" status so it looks like you have to set the Wi-Fi up every time you want to tweak a setting within the camera. Using the OI Share (latest version) app there are some changes to the camera that can be made via the app but not all. In this instance I was messing around with the stabilisation setting of the camera to see the effect off or on had whilst using a tripod. Does anybody know if this is supposed to happen or do I need to flick a switch somewhere to ensure the Wi-Fi stays connected. Its a bit of a pain to have to keep re-connecting the Wi-Fi just because you want to change some settings.

Definitely doesn't sound right. Is it an Android device? If so, have you ensured that Auto-reconnect is switched off for your home network? If not, your phone can keep dropping the camera as it switches back to the home wifi network (router).

My phone is a Samsung A52s so should be fine. Will look at the auto reconnect and see if it is causing the issue.

I have always had issues trying to control my EM1 mk2 and mk3 using my iPhone. The OI Share app is not that good imho. I have tried it briefly with my OM-1 but I always struggle to get it to do what I want. In the end, I resort to using a wireless remote that just triggers the shutter.

I have an android phone and have used the IO Share app for GPS locations without a glitch. Which wireless trigger do you use?

Its this one which I got when I was a Nikon user over 5 years ago. I simply changed the connector for one that plugs into the Oly shutter release socket when I moved to Oly. Not 100% certain but I think the Oly connector the same same type as Cannon use so a cannon remote will work.

I was out in the field a few days ago and wanted to use my phone as a remote control. All I got was a message telling me how to download the new OM version of the app.. No option to continue using the one previously loaded. Very irritating, as I was out of coverage where I was working.

I use the remote link with my Meike 3.5mm fish-eye, so I can get out of the picture!
