Write protect on OM-D E-M1 Mark ii

When I download images from either a Lexar or Samsung Hi speed 32Gb card to a MacPr0 13" laptop I have no problems.
However if I perform the same operation to a Win10 PC ( high spec built for Photoshop) upon putting the card back in the camera I always get a Write Protect warning. This can only be removed by a camera format operation.
Whilst not a big issue as I usually format anyway, any ideas please?

Is the little sliding lock at the side of the SD card causing this?

Are you doing anything different on the PC compared to the Mac? Maybe cutting and pasting images (so deleting them on PC) from card to PC. just reading / copying them on the Mac? Try the little sliding write protect switch, mentioned by Ian, to the ‘on’ position before putting card in PC to see what happens. Almost sounds like the PC must be writing to the card which the camera sees as corruption and / or write protect perhaps. If it’s repeatable then it should be possible to get to the bottom of.

It sounds like a setting in the Win10 PC (high spec built for Photoshop) could be doing it to you. Check for options for downloading & make sure it isn't deleting images etc after downloading or something else like that. If using the Olympus program it allows deleting when downloaded, if selected, but it will flag each image as having been downloaded so old files can sit on the card while downloading the next lot. One thing I have noticed on the odd occasion is the computer not recognising the card after some unknown failing when inserting the card into the computer & to fix it I just put the card into the camera & check images in 'play' & then I can read the card in the computer again. I would format the card (in camera) afterwards though.

You have had good advice already, but here is another idea.

Are you following the correct procedure in Windows when removing the card from the reader? You should click on the little "Safely remove hardware and eject media" icon and then click on the card.

My theory is that instead of simply copying the files from the card using File Explorer you are using a program to do it, and that program is writing something to the card. Then you are ejecting it without telling the computer first. (I stick to simply copying using File Explorer/Finder - much safer.)

As an experienced user of PC's, I do all the correct procedures for reading the card. I don't intentionally write to the card and have looked for hidden files that might have written to the card without my knowledge. I always use explorer as I am extracting files from the card to multiple locations etc.
The thought of making the card read only before putting it in the reader is probably the way forward - watch this space as this should be the answer!

Try sliding the wp switch BEFORE putting card in reader, that should eliminate the PC writing anything to the card as being the cause.

I got this on one of my old cards a while ago. I'd be interested in a fix.

If it's an 'old' card then it is probably time to 'retire' it.

I had retired it but was resurrecting it to use for some music files in the car. I just couldn't delete any of the old images off it to make space. Decided if it was going to have issues I'd just get a new card.

Interesting.

One positive, memory of all types has got a lot cheaper over the past few months. Apparently due to the bitcoin bubble bursting, and far fewer machines sitting there mining nowadays. Have a look at various Sandisk and Lexar pricing graphs on camelcamelcamel.

Just a quick reply. Lexar about a year old, Samsung 3 weeks old. I have also tried other less good cards and all do the same.
I will be able to spend time tomorrow trying various ideas floated in the forum.
