  • Help required OM1 and 150-400mm

Watched Andy Rouse video this morning thought I would try setting my two birding custome functions to the LFN button on the front of my 150-400 lens but I cannot get it to work yet other tested options you can set from the menu work.

Let me explain how I have attempted to set the Lfn button up

On the Lens switch set to Lfn

Go to cog menu (operations) then button option go to Lfn I selected my custom function 2 to work when I have custom 1 selected which in theory should work when I push the lens button but I cannot get it to work

My current C1 is set for small birds and C2 is BIF settings I was hoping that I can press the Lfn button on the lens on the fly should a shooting opportunity become apparent and switch to the required custom settings

Could a owner of the said combo try it to see if it actually works thanks in advance if you can shed some light on this one

OK, so you need to start in one of the modes such as manual, shutter or aperture. In menu cog button functions set Lfn to custom 1. Then in each custom menu you use set the same button settings. Now set camera to your mode. One push on Lfn should take you to Custom mode 1 a second push takes you out.
I don’t have that particular Len’s but this works on others.

Well I tried my EM1X Lfn button today following the same process as on my OM1 this time using my 12-100 and would appear that even though you already have a preset custom mode saved you cannot program the Lfn button to switch between your C1 or any other saved custom function by using the Lfn button unless someone knows otherwise

I think from memory you can go fro either M A S P mode to any C mode and back again by touch of a button but not from one C mode to another C mode , I shoot in manual and can from from there to a C mode set for pro capture and back to manual but not from C1 to C2, if in C1 and I want to go to C2 push button and back to manual push another button to go to C2 , I set the Ln button on the 150/400 as a preset focus point, I am not sure if the 150-400 LN button works the sane as it does on other lenses

    I can reproduce your problem.

So for a 12-4 and 40-150 in M mode if I program Lfn to be C1 and in C1 Lfn is also C1 then I can toggle between Manual and C1.

When I switch to the 150-400 it simply stays in Manual. This is when Lfn/Preset button is set to LFn and I press one of four LFn buttons.......

That's exactly the problem I have had my thinking was if I set the Lfn to C2 when in C1 by pressing one of the four buttons around the front of the lens I could flick between the settings in say a situation whereby I move from a BIF to a static small bird in a bush by just pressing the Lfn button interesting that when you choose some of the available options they do work such as teleconverter video recording

I have been given the telephone number for OMDS support just waiting for a member to test out the same settings and see what they think before making a call

Thank you for checking I will feedback on this post if it can be resolved

I have just tried it with my OM-1 and 150-400. If I set LFn to switch to C1, then when I'm in manual mode pressing one of the 4 LFn buttons switches to C1. Pressing again switches back to manual. So it seems to work as expected. I set this up with the 150-400 on the camera, but it shouldn't make any difference which lens is on the camera when you set it up.

I have done exactly the same with the same OM-1 + 150-400mm combo and without any issues.

Just curious. What did you both have LFn set to in C1?

          @gazza95
Currently my C1 default is M-mode,1/20s, ISO 100, F/22, all variable on the fly according to light etc because I am always in Manual-mode. I never shoot in any other mode because I prefer to stay in control of how the 'holy trinity' is balanced. Every time I try Av or Tv Priority or ISO Auto, I don't like the camera's automatic settings.

Thanks to all who tested and checked the correct way in which the Lfn button can be setup

        Hi Redrobin

After checking my settings went for manual to to my C1 custom setting using the Lfn button
