Since latest update ,have used the camera for about 10 hours, twice when on either SF or CAF it has switched itself to MF,catching me out & missing a shot,in both instances I was on smallest focus point, dont know if that is the problem or just me. Been practising on MF lens ring with assist if it continues to switch again.Camera on single shot silent,low iso,S mode,Any clues appreciated thanks.

That's interesting - not noticed it myself so far. What lenses were you using?

Ps ,the fault only does it when camera is in that mode,all my 4 C mode settings (all in S priority)it does not do it,unless its the angle at which I am holding the camera,as usually when in the faulty mode the camera isnt skyward but usually horizontal or slightly down pointing,just a thought.

You need to double check all your previous settings have been reinstated to make sure nothing was changed after the update, but it sounds like something mechanical may be moving, such as loose screws in the camera's or lens mount, including the MC14. I would check them all with a micro screw driver.Originally posted by bigsambwfc View PostPs, the fault only does it when camera is in that mode, all my 4 C mode settings (all in S priority) it does not do it, unless its the angle at which I am holding the camera, as usually when in the faulty mode the camera isn't skyward but usually horizontal or slightly down pointing, just a thought.Ross "I fiddle with violins (when I'm not fiddling with a camera)". While I've not seen this since upgrading to FW 1.3 I have seen it many times over the years and there have been one of two causes;
1) Lens not seated properly, which is corrected by removing and refitting lens(es). With this you also typically see an f -.- shown instead of number.
2) You have activated the MF clutch and you have slipped into MF mode. This will still show real f stop.
You could also see if menu help gives any more info. For this you need to go into menu ( not SCP )and try and select focus mode and if you press info you may get ore info about options greyed out.

I will be on a shooting marathon this weekend. I am usually on S-AF. Let me see if this will happen. Thanks for the heads up on it.

I hope it works OK for you. Actually, after fitting a new HLD-10 to mine today (just arrived) I was pointing my 100-400 lens at 400mm f6.3 into the dim reaches of my loungeroom (come store room) & it did release the shutter when not in focus using S-AF+MF while confirming AF using Single AF Target. So don't expect miracles in difficult situations, but on the whole I think AF is improved.Last edited by Ross the fiddler; 6 December 2022, 02:04 PM.

Ppps Spoke too soon, sun was out took loads in CAF single shot ,small focus point no problem,switched toC1 mode set on AEL button which is my pro cap sh2 setting for small fast stuff,it is programmed for large focus points,took the flying yellow hammer adequately 7 out of 8 in focus,but and here is the rub the focus setting had changed to small focus point when I came to look at SCP,Changed it back to large and set it on menu.Did,nt do it again and C2,3,4 were not affected.Was using dot sight so did,nt notice ,change concentrating on subject and dot.Hope thats the last of glitches.

So you resaved the 'larger' AF Target to C1 in Menu 1, Custom Mode, Assign, Set then? Did you also set up AF Target Home Position in C1 as well? In C1 I keep Single AF Target as a Home Target (in centre) as a quick override, which I have set for Bird ID AI, if I need it in a hurry for something else.Originally posted by bigsambwfc View PostPpps Spoke too soon, sun was out took loads in CAF single shot ,small focus point no problem,switched toC1 mode set on AEL button which is my pro cap sh2 setting for small fast stuff,it is programmed for large focus points,took the flying yellow hammer adequately 7 out of 8 in focus,but and here is the rub the focus setting had changed to small focus point when I came to look at SCP,Changed it back to large and set it on menu.Did,nt do it again and C2,3,4 were not affected.Was using dot sight so did,nt notice ,change concentrating on subject and dot.Hope thats the last of glitches.Ross "I fiddle with violins (when I'm not fiddling with a camera)". For the first time
in my Olympus journey, That OM-1
HUNG itself. I was not even machinegunning. I was setting the WB and it just froze. I could not switch off, I had to remove the battery.

I also had a hang yesterday. I was looking at image and tried moving the image around. I turned camera off, took about 10-20 seconds for the image to disappear from the screen.
I had been taking a lot of shots (about 2,500 in 3 odd hours) so cold I could not feel if camera had got hot. the latest firmware installed (1.3).

I had an issue with my OM1 prior to this latest firmware update where it hung and the camera was getting hot - I cannot quite remember now whether it appeared to stay on, but it continued to warm up after turning it off so I took the battery out. I was wandering around a Spanish village at the time, so it was hot weather, but I wasn't firing a lot of shots. I've taken hundreds more shots since without a problem.
