  • OM-D Pro?

So it looks like the camera body to answer all our prayers may well be announced in September (along with maybe an OM-D 'lite'). This is anticipated to be fully compatible with both micro and full 4/3rds glass with the latter able to focus without the sluggishness that we have with the current OM-D and the PENs.
Some say that this body will be slightly larger than the OM-D to balance better with the larger 4/3rds glass, which is probably a good thing. However, I have been wondering of late what this beast may look like and how it will physically accept two lens ranges. The mount is different and the mount to sensor distance varies. I am struggling to work out how all this will work in practice although I would hope that an adapter is not needed but cannot think of another solution at the moment.
Any ideas how Oly could actually implement this dual standard into the OM-D Pro to achieve their aim of 'One Beautiful System'?

You've been reading those rumour (rumor) sites again.

I believe a hybrid camera (if that's what it will be) will still be using an adapter which should be more solid than the MMF-3 (hopefully) but we shall see eventually.

Don't see Oly producing an E-7 Chevvy. I think that they believe that micro is the future and this new body will appease people who still want to use their superior 4/3 glass fully on an up to date body whilst pandering to the micro masses (and that includes me).

Something the size of the GH3 would be ideal from an ergonomics perspective, ive not tried my GH3 with 4/3 lenses but I think it would balance nicely.

I wonder if you could have a more solid MFT body mounting point with a special adapter that you twist to lock (as normal) but then screw into the body for rigidity so you have essentially turned your MFT mount body into an FT mount one.

                  Re: OM-D Pro?

Since the whole point of a new "solution" (as worded by Olympus) is to enable the continued and fully-functional use of 4/3 lenses on their "new" cameras (which seems to mean m4/3), then the lens mount must be able to easily accept lenses of either mount somehow. Which would rule out an adaptor which is more complex to fit.

I think the development of 4/3 per se is dead.

A slightly larger OM-D with ability to fit 4/3rds glass which will work perfectly?
                    Where do I sign up?

You may find there's a wee queue!

Not that I'll be in it - I'm happy with what I've got - for now!

Let's hope that it is as good as the rumours suggest - and not too expensive. My E-30 will wear out sometime!

Yes me too if they keep to a sensible price. If not I'll probably jump to a Pentax K5.
