Often when you lot are discussing photos on this forum, you appear to know the ISO /f setting etc used by the picture taker.

How??

There is a "camera" icon in the gallery which shows EXIF so if the picture is hosted there you can use that

however many of us use this

Pete's link will give the detail, but a good summary is "it's all the information your camera captured when it took the picture".

Different manufacturers use different parts and it is one of those "old" standards that wasn't well thought through, but even though people try and replace it with things like XMP and IPTC (some more acronyms for you) it keeps hanging on in there because just about all software reads it

I like & recommend kuso-exif-viewer. It is surprising how much info is available from the EXIF data. For kuso-exif-viewer, it is a right click of the mouse (over the photo on the web or even your own pictures file) to open the photo EXIF details & if all details are there, you can even read the serial number of the lens used, quite revealing.

Actually I read that before posting, but there was a wooshing sound as it flew over my head.

So.......... I need a little program to view this info??

Not really... if you are viewing the web with firefox, you can get a plug-in for that which then gives you the additional right-click option of viewing the EXIF.

which is what Kuso Exif Reader is for Windows Explorer but also allows opening up your own photo files (to show the EXIF details) with it too.
