It will be interesting to see how much better this is, but as I tend to only use the EVF for composition, will this be worth the upgrade...

...and interesting to see hom much it costs too. I hear it'll be cheaper than the VF-2. But by how much? Anyone any idea?

DPreview quote a street price of $179.99 for the VF-3.

At over 30% down on the resolution of the VF-2 it will be interesting to see how it performs.
Cost must be the leading motivation with this new EVF (it does look slightly smaller too).

....I wonder if they'll retrofit the VF-3 locking mechanism on my VF-2 free of charge for me? It's a bloody nightmare wondering if it's still there all the time!

If the VF-3 is OK I'll probably sell the VF-2 and buy this for peace of mind....

Funny you should say that... I was thinking the same thing.

I've been at the DIY again with exactly this in mind.

Hopefully the 'street' price will be a lot more reasonable.

But it still has the major problem of the vf-2, the inability to lock the viewfinder at the angle you want, as everyone with glasses knows the vf-2 soon rotates to vertical in use.

As someone on another forum stated, they should have done away with the swivel and therefore made it much smaller and cheaper..... well, probably the same price, but smaller....

                              Re: New EVF for PENs

Never had any trouble with the VF2 coming loose on my E-P2. I stuck a thin piece of insulating tape on the hotshoe to make it a tight fit.

If they made the VF3 inexpensive, I would then consider getting the XZ1 and the VF3 as a carry-round camera. Without a viewfinder, NO camera gets my attention any more. The only way I can use an LCD screen is at waist-height or on a tripod. I'm getting stubborn/cantankerous in my old age!
