  • Is my new Godox V860 faulty?

I've just got a new V860iiiO to go on my OM-1 and it's not working as i expect it to. Now, let's be honest, the chances of the problem actually lying between my eyeball and shutter finger are pretty good, but in the hope that there might be others with the same (reasonably popular?) combination...

    (i) The flash zoom mechanism just doesn't seem to work at all, either on or off camera -- it's stuck at "07 mm". I can't really see how this can be user error -- but maybe someone else can?

(ii). TTL metering doesn't seem to work, either. Now, there are enough combinations of settings on the camera and flash that i could quite willingly believe it's me at fault; but as a lowest common denominator, if i set the camera exposure mode to P and stick on my trusty Oly Fl-36 in TTL-auto mode, it's fine. Swapping in the Godox set in TTL mode does not give (anything like) correct exposures. Is there anything else i should be fiddling with?? [The exposure compensation isn't changed from zero]

Just wanted to check i'm not missing something really obvious before the unit (which otherwise seems perfectly fine) goes back to the supplier...

    Thanks
    ian

Is the diffuser panel (the little white pop out thing) seated back in correctly? One of my 350s wouldn't change any settings and it was driving me crazy. Even though it looked as though it was in it was actually sitting just proud, pulling it out and pushing it back in properly fixed all the issues I was having.

Good point, I forgot about that, same thing happened on one of my 350's

Ooo err, well that's sorted out one of my "deliberate mistakes"!! The wording "actually sitting just proud" suggests that you have excellent clairvoyant powers....

TTL metering still not working for me, but since the more straightforward of the two identifiable 'issues' turned out to be user error, i'm now much more inclined to think that the second is, too. Somewhat disconcertingly, the OM-1 doesn't appear actually to be among the cameras that Godox lists as confirmed to work with the V860iiiO -- although i guess it would be pretty surprising if it didn't.

(I have the "N" version for use on my Nikon body, and iTTL 'just worked' on that without any fiddling.)

Anyway, thanks for the insightful suggestion!

I have a different Godox flash, that has to be set for either manual M or auto zoom.A
You set it by pressing the zoom button and then moving the dial to set what you want.
It also needs to be set to 4/3 in one of the custom menus, presumably to take the crop factor into account
Yours might be the same, worth a look and also have you made sure the flash has the latest firmware installed.
Again that might help, not to so sure on that last point though.

Thanks...the zoom thing proved to be user error (see below). Having got auto zoom going yet, but that must surely be just a matter of time, trial, and error. Can't say i'm finding the manual too helpful!
