  • A Quick Hello

Hi, I'm Eric Valk from Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. I've been a photographer since some time in the early 1970s when I joined the school's phtography club; I aquired a Canon Ftb and 3 primes for black and white work. My interests then, as now are landscapes and wildife. A couple of engineering degrees and an engineering carreer intervened, but I renewed my interest and pursuit of pthe photgraphic image after 2000. In 2009 I acquired Pansonic's G1, and it travelled with me on a number of wilderness canoe trips and world travels. My working cameras now are the E-M1-mkII, PEN-F and GM5. I've aquired, ahem, several lenses over the last decade (I discovered that FD lenses would work very well indeed on an M43 camera.) My output over the last year has been rather paltry due to time spent caring for a spouse with serious health issues, COVID-19 and finally a small black bear has set up residence in my favorite bird sanctuary. (I believe the bear has recently been "served an eviction notice" and now resides elsewhere ).
    Cheers
    Eric

ohh..the other side of the world. and a very cold place. Welcome..Have a warm chocolate D

Is it true that a hot cup of water freezes faster than a cold cup? I forgot to experiment throwing/ spraying out a cup of hot water to see it freeze in mid air when I was in finland at -30deg C.

Well it''s summer here now, 35C last week. Not exactly the season for hot drinks.
I think for freezing thrown water in mid air you need colder than -30C, which we don't get very often. I think I've tried this experiment once at about -40C and the water didn't quite freeze before it hit the ground. What you might find more unusual is that we have permamaneent snow from Deceember through March. Before the melt, you can easily have a 1 meter of accumulated snow, and where you pile it up, or the wind drifts it, (its a big job to keep streets and walkways clear) you may have piles over 2m tall. I will share an image once I understand how that works.

              Cheers
              Eric

Please do. I miss the nice cold. I am hot and wet all the year round. When we throw shaved ice, it lands as water
