  • Hello from the other side of the pond

    Hi,

I'm Jerry and I'm photoholic. I just ordered an OD-E-M1 and it arrives tomorrow , 4/3 are totally new to me. I try to search before I ask but sometimes I miss a thread, so please pardon me if I ask something that has already been asked. I look for forums of users because I find more information about a certain subject by folks who use the products.

I have been seriously shooting digital for about 4 years, mostly with a Nikon D7000 and now a D810. I want something a little smaller to carry around with me all the time and my mentor suggested the M1. She has the M10 and wishes she had gotten the M1 because it's more weather resistant. We shoot mostly Landscape, but I want something not as bulky to have with me.

I browsed here for a little bit and am encouraged by the posts I read, so Hello again.

    Thanks
    Jerry Klevas

    A warm welcome Jerry.

The smaller size and weight of micro 4/3rds is very liberating whatever your subject matter.

We're a friendly bunch and everyone is happy to share their knowledge and experience of Olympus cameras/lenses. Just ask and you're sure to get helpful answers to your questions.

We also enjoy sharing photos and you have free gallery space on here.

    Regards.
    Peter

              Hi Jerry,

A warm welcome from me too

The em1 is a great camera to start your M4/3 journey with and you will get plenty of help off of this forum should you have any queries. We are on the whole a very friendly bunch, not at all narrow minded or pedantic like so many others are

Out of interest what lens/s are you starting out with?

              Kind regards, Simon

Welcome , the EM1 is a great camera. If you also are getting the 12 - 40 lenses watch out that you return the focus ring to the AF position (pushed forward) after using it in manual ( pulled back) as a number of people get caught out and think the camera is faulty as they can only get manual focus.

welcome Jerry. I came from a d7000 in December to an em-10 and now an em-1

What I used to lug around in a massive rucksack ( and still had to leave some at home ) now fits in a slingbag

                      Thanks,

Starting with a 14-42 f/3.5-5.6 and a 40-150 f/4-5.6. I have ordered an adapter so I can use my Nikon lenses on it if I want, we'll see how it goes.
