Happy to be here, and I'm enjoying my new OM-5 (for a month so far) for bird photography along the Rio Mondego in Portugal. I'll be searching these forums for tips to get the most out of this camera.

Thank you all. I see that I should have been more specific in my profile - I am a retired American expat who moved to Coimbra Portugal last August. The top 70 photos on https://www.flickr.com/photos/vb11530/ are from Portugal, with the top 20 taken with the OM-5. I live near the Rio Mondego and I'm astounded at the variety of birds there. The balcony of my apartment overlooks the park adjacent to the river so I can watch the comings and goings of the birds all day every day. As a bonus, the balcony faces west so I have a great view of the night sky.
Cheers.

Another welcome Casablues. Would be great to see your photos from Portugal. A country on my list for a holiday trip.
You probably know this - Coimbra is where the OM System Europe office and tech centre is based, not far to get your OM gear serviced!

Welcome Casablues, don't recall anyone else joining from Portugal
Coincidentally just booked a week in Lisbon for next month
One of the few places in Europe I haven't been to photograph Trams.
Looking forward to it, what's the local beer like?

Welcome from a fellow vinho drinker Vincent. I have been looking through some of your images on Flickr and an really amazed at the quality of the photos which you have been getting out of that OM-5 / 75-300mm combination. You have an enviable set of skills. Please keep your photos coming.
Cheers

thanks Phil, very kind. Those shots were taken with my prior camera - Canon Powershot SX-70 which I bought for the light weight and super zoom. I got good results from that camera when I had good lighting conditions, but there were many limitations I had to work around. I'm very happy with the OM-5 so far, but there is a real learning curve.

We spent a week in Spain and \Portugal this time last year, visiting friends who had done the same as you and rented a place in Albufeira, on the southern coast of Portugal.Originally posted by davcoll View PostWelcome to the friendly forum, when we lived in France, we spent a lot of time in Lagos in late Winter or early Spring shortening our Winters.
