I have plans to visit over the weekend and, like you, am looking for good locations. I plan to visit some time this week to check the shed at Ropley and try and find suitable sites with good light for a given time of day. If I find some suitable locations, I shall share them here.

There is FREE parking in the field to the left of Ropley Stn - Stn is A on this map (maybe take two planks of wood in case it rain/gets muddy?

Parking at Ropley Stn or Alresford Stn is a NIGHTMARE for EVENTS!

Arlebury Park Rec has a large car park or Perins Sch/College opposite Arlebury Park for Weekends! its a 5 min walk to the Alresford Stn.
(GRAB the map left and follow B3047 to left of Alresford for Arlebury Park - left of the Running Horse P.H.)

If you GRAB the map and take it LEFT You can see the railway line mainly surrounded by fields. Same if you GRAB and take the map right.

Right of the Stn is Bighton Hill - there is a bridge up here which allows you to look down on the Engine Sheds and trains coming from the left or right !

Good set of locations. The picnic area at Ropley is also good in particular when the train engines take on water which they do in the UP direction (headed for Alton).

The bridge is particularly good in the Up direction as the locos have to start and climb the bank towards Medstead and Four Marks. Usually plenty of steam and exhaust. Trains from the opposite direction are coasting down the Bank so are less dramatic. The long siding adjacent to the running line is the store for locos awaiting their turn for attention at the shed. The shed area is always a great place to go to see those locos in work and those that are stabled there awaiting work.

To give you some idea of the 'standard' locations, view this gallery on my website. Type in a station location in the search box to get some idea of photo locations at each.
As I said before, I shall be looking for other photo locations and shall share them later.
