All I can say is that a bunch of specifications, even if correct, doesn't really tell a complete story.
Ian
Agree Ian from my nesrly 3 year of being a OM user I found more out after the new camera launches from users and visonarys its the sum of the parts that makes a good product I am sure OM will leave something of someones wish list on this camera but we as toggers ask a lot out of our cameras everyone has a different use for a camera as its been said before no such thing as a perfect camera system I for one have had zero regrets moving from Canon to OM to the point I am considering the 150-400 as my next purchase depending if the Wow camera wows me enough over the EM1X and Mark 2 EM1 I own
While we “wait and see” I often ponder the incredible technology that we have already available to us, there in the palm of our hand.
For me the “WOW” has always been in the results that can be produced by what many consider to be a “lesser” system.
I can still remember the digital v.s. 35mm film debate!
Our cameras can now achieve medium format film quality and shoot faster and with infinitely more versatility than an OM-1 with the, then, amazing 5ps motor drive.
On reviewing the list I have slightly revised my feelings as I can see that there is potentially rather a lot there, some of which is down to possibilities created by a faster sensor which may improve AF for example. I also see that we may now have built in GPS for geotagging which is desirable as I am forever forgetting to set things up with the current arrangement. There a few other bits and pieces which suggest functionality enhancements. So maybe there is a lot which is not yet obvious. We will see.
One thing I am intrigued about is the 12-40 F2.8 Pro ii. The 12-40 is a lens I use a lot so I'm curious as to what the upgrades may be on that as I can't actually think what they may be unless it is something to do with a facility in the new camera.
Curiouser and curiouser.
This speculation each time a camera is about to be announced is all good fun, if not a little pointless 😵

I've worked hard to be this grumpy. It hasn't been easy at times but it's worth it.
I would hate to have my photos geo tagged .. the fuss caused up here by hundreds of photographers chasing short eared owls recently has put me right off disclosing locations
Easy enough to switch off. But I don't mind as I have no secret hidey holes...If I want to hide where I took the photo, I edit EXIF and place the photo location at the North Pole....
Global shutter anyone? I think there is a fair chance of that so that like the Nikon Z9 we will see them drop the mechanical shutter. No viewfinder blackout too.
Juist to be clear, the Nikon Z9 does not have a global shutter. It has a very fast read-out sensor. In fact the spec. is very similar in that respect to the Sony IMX472 that is being widely rumoured as being the new OMS camera's sensor.
Yes, thanks Ian. I was well aware that the Z9 has not got global shutter but Nikon has considered it near enough to drop the mechanical shutter. I was just thinking that with a very fast read out sensor like the rumoured Sony IMX472 and with only 20MP to clear rather than Nikon's 45MP the wow camera might well be the first dedicated camera to actually achieve true global shutter.
Ok, I have just had a look at the FT5 rumour on 4/3 Rumors site and it would appear that the new camera has a mechanical shutter so bang goes my hypothesis.
The Nikon Z9 is not a global shutter but does drop the mechanical shutter. Makes me think the shutter is as obsolete as a mirror in DLSRs. I doubt I would buy any future camera that has a shutter now: Mirrorless and Shutterless is the way forward. if the New Wow camera has a shutter it will settle my indecision betwen a Nikon Z9 and the new OM digital camera.
The survey results so far don't really surprise me. And they could pose a bit of a challenge for the engineers and marketing people!
All the big hit items add up to "Give me a camera that does the same as the one I have, but better". That is all the stuff about noise, dynamic range, autofocus etc. I understand this and it is exactly what I want, although my priorities may be different from others because we do different kinds of stuff. But it doesn't help much if OMDS want to make a splash in a crowded marketplace.
Sometimes there is new stuff which is genuinely innovative and shakes up the industry. A good example is doing the image stabilization in the body rather than the lens. When Oly first did this all the other manufacturers (and their friends in the press) dismissed it as a gimmick. It was proven to work and now they are all doing it. There are probably other things that have turned out not to be terribly useful, or only appeal to a few users. I suppose the best we can hope for is "the same but better" plus some genuine innovation that will turn out to be useful in the long run.

Fair enough. I use it for travel, remember that, purely so that I know where I was. If you do publish you can specifically remove that from the metadata anyway so even if you do inadvertently switch it on one day it need not be an issue.
As always we all have different requirements which is why it is impossible to produce a camera which is suited to everyone.

Those leaked specs from the rumours site says it has 1053 phase detect focus points. That is quite a step up from 121 on the 1Mk3. That should allow some AF improvement for subject detection? The thing is I only upgraded to the Mk3 in May 2020...it seems too soon for me to be getting a new camera already. Some serious GAS upcoming I fear!
It's the restricted options compared to Canon which is the problem. In Canon you can use different blend modes and more than two exposures is very easy compared to the faffing on Oly. I do said faffing, which you do get used to after a while, but the lack of blend modes is major difference and why the experts in multi exposure work like Valda Bailey use Canon.
Just seen the (alleged ) full specs posted on Facebook ,if it’s not then someone’s gone to a lot of trouble to spoof it .I’ll see if I can link in a bit . And if true much ado about nothing ?
This document provides specifications for an image sensor, including its size, mount type, pixel count, aspect ratio, image stabilization features, electronic viewfinder details, touchscreen monitor, autofocus system, exposure controls, video recording formats and resolutions, and bracketing and compositing options. Key details include a 20.4 megapixel Micro Four Thirds sensor, 5-axis image stabilization, a high-resolution electronic viewfinder and vari-angle touchscreen, 4K and Full HD video recording, and focus stacking and interval shooting modes.

Reading through the “leaked spec” it does look like this camera may well have inherited all of the EM1X features and then a few….
My five years of warranty run out on my MKii in September so hopefully they’ll be fully available by then -IF it’s a worthwhile upgrade!
One thing I’m intrigued about for the MKiii and X is the use of the button within the joystick, it makes most sense to me to be able to be set up as the back button focus - though not having used one I can’t be sure!
IF ? Those are the true specs , what we need to know without getting into any u.s style waffle is how it translates into useable stuff , it’s got to have a high hit rate compared to the likes of the Sony A9 or A1 where hardly any shots are wasted .. I will be watching for videos from trustworthy u.tubers first .. and certainly won’t be rushing into any rash buying .. launch price is usually initially high plus weight are both deciding factors to
I’ve been a little underwhelmed with the direction they seem to be going with lenses. New ones all seem to be f4, rather than wider, I hope they bring out some really bright zooms!
I think OMDS will live to regret the “Wow” comment. I guess it’s given them some publicity (and as the old adage goes, any publicity is good publicity), but it’s bound to provoke mockery from many. If these leaked details are correct (and I suspect they are), it sounds like a very solid and worthwhile upgrade from the EM1.2/3, but it ain’t ”wow”. In my view, it’s what the EM1.3 should have been.
Looking at those specs ,I do feel your right paul .. only a few days to go till we find out for certain .. it may well translate into something very useable or the specs might be a red herring hmmmm
Yes, looks like a good upgrade. I was hoping there might still be something else on top of these leaked specs. We will have to see. Was the Em1Mk2 a 'Wow' camera? It certainly had some innovation like Pro Capture, better IS and 60fps electronic shutter. I got the Mk3 because it had a few extras I wanted but the same sensor as I already had irked me as I've got used to sensor upgrades with camera upgrades. What can they have up their sleeve, and will there be any firmware upgrades for the Mk3 and 1X..
The EM1.2 was a massive upgrade from the EM1.1. Almost “wow”. But the EM1.3 was really too little. If it hadn’t been for my dip into and out of Nikon, I’d still have the EM1.2 and not the 3.
