I have Firefox, Chrome & Internet explorer. Tend to use Firefox most an IE least. Only have all 3 as there are occasions when there are compatibility issues with certain sites

Internet Explorer is NOT SAFE! It's not supported by Microsoft anymore and is a magnet for malware.

The forum's functionality will not be dictated by the quirks of Internet Explorer either.

In the main, I use Frefox but am now looking to trialing out a newish browser by the name of Brave. I would like feedback if anyone else has beat me to it. The info may also be helpful to Ian as it already appears to have had quite a rapid lift-off.?

Oddly I was just thinking about that this morning... after some reading i have decided to give it a go just for some research. This comment is brought to you through the medium of brave...

Seems Brave is based on Chromium - so it's basically a embedded Chrome. Nothing wrong with that, but it means as a site admin it'll behave like Chrome.

Edge just will not allow proper access to one of my Share websites. It starts OK, then just will not go any further. Both Opera and Chrome work perfectly. Just what that problem is I really am at a loss to think...……:-(

With the wide variety of capable, supported browsers available, it's a little hard to comprehend why at least 5 members are using IE even if only occasionally.

I use three (Chrome/Edge/Firefox) because I need to test things.

I agree regarding IE. if a site dictated that it was needed I would not visit that site. However I do think that some people think they are using IE when they are using Edge because it has a very similar E logo. I have heard a number of people call Edge IE. IE was hidden on Win10 for a good reason and should stay there, having said that when I was working we had to enable it for all users because we had such old systems... Now I don't need to worry

Good point, Andy - I'm surprised at how few say they use Edge.

I have tried Edge but after Firefox it felt like I had one hand tied behind my back! I've used Firefox since the Netscape days and see no advantage in learning a new browser.

I liked IE. My user perspective is that all browsers have one job to do - display web pages. And they all do it pretty much the same, so the only reason to choose one over all the others is ancillary stuff. I found IE did the primary job as well as any of the rest (and just as quickly) and found that its UI for favourites/bookmarks and history was much easier than the rest so I stuck with it.

Edge came along and I hated it - it was like trying to use a phone screen on a 27 inch monitor. Long lists of favourites needed loads of scrolling and I vaguely recall history being pretty impenetrable. So in view of the lack of support and corresponding security holes with IE I had a look at the others and settled on Chrome because it doesn't do those bits too badly.

I have been using Netscape/Firefox for ages as well. I have both the last of the supported old Firefox 56.02 32bit as I make considerable use of the session manager plugin and the latest 64 bit version.

There are a few reasons why I commissioned this poll; firstly out of curiosity, secondly because of concerns about the insecurity of the old Internet Explorer (and developments coming up of the forum software will make its use problematical anyway) and finally because the next maintenance release of the forum software, which I have already installed on DPNow, has a non-critical bug that only affects Firefox users (really minor but potentially annoying but can be completely avoided - I will advise on this).

Ian, I do hope that you can overcome this potential Firefox foible. I have voted, but just to reinforce it, if I were not able to use Firefox on this forum I would instantly cease to be a member. I will not browse the 'net without Firefox. Not to start a flame-fest but I believe it to be the only worthy browser out there. Opinions will differ, of course, but as poor old brain-damaged IE gave way to the even more damaged Edge which I believe will become Chromium-based soon there will only really be Chrome and Firefox as mainstream contenders for the crown (barring the also-rans). I am forced to use Chrome (and other Google sh*te) in the current contract and every single second is an unpleasant experience which reminds me of how useless and clunky browsers used to be a decade ago. Good luck to those who use it voluntarily (I know not why) but please, pretty please, keep Firefox as an option!

BTW impressive numbers for Safari, that was an unexpected but pleasant surprise.

I've responded to this in a post but in case you don't get that far - Firefox users have nothing to worry about - the bug in the next release of the forum software simply stops a new emoji feature from working properly.

Anything connected with Microsoft is a non-starter. I use FF.

I tend to use Firefox the most, followed by Safari. Very occasionally I use Opera..... I am not sure why. - It works perfectly whenever I use it.
