  • TT Artisan (lenses) joined mFT consortium

Not sure if posted already hereabouts but I found this mentioned on DPReview here:-

Another new member joins the MFT consortium - TTArtisan: Micro Four Thirds Talk Forum: Digital Photography Review (dpreview.com)

They have been making them for quiet a while BB , albeit the whole range is MF but with our focus peaking ability its not a problem

Indeed, so membership of the consortium means access to technical info that will enable them to make further optimisations to their lens designs and possibly even inclusion of AF.

When I had the Nikon Z7, I had a TT Artisan 11mm fisheye. It was a fantastic lens. As sharp as the Oly 8mm FE and beautifully built - definitely a step up on the Samyang 7.5mm for MFT. Here's an image I took with it:

There have been a lot of comments about the Artisans (both TT and 7) lenses in Another Place. The general view is that they are optically very good, as long as you don't get a Friday afternoon copy. But mechanically they are not. They don't stand up to heavy use very well and are virtually unrepairable once they break.

This may or may not be a problem, depending on your usage. For example, a fisheye is unlikely to see very heavy use so getting a good quality lens for a good price may represent a bargain. But for a standard prime that might see a lot more use, it gets more difficult to evaluate the risk:bargain ratio,

Mine ended up in the bin (7.5mm FE). Optically good, build quality, well mine was a duffer...

Could have... I tried repairing it myself, the focus ring came loose from the barrel. It has to be tightened in a specific place to get the focus range. There was a video on how to do it by Artisans, so I guess it was a well known problem. But after "repairing" it, same happened again. And to be fair to Artisans they said they would repair it.
      Working...
