  • March 2026 Photographic Challenge. Subject: Hometown

To enter, simply post your picture in this thread between now and 31st March 2026. After which there will be a two week voting period, during which all members (not just those who have entered the competition) will be encouraged to vote for their favourites by using the "Poll" system. 1st, 2nd & 3rd places will be allocated and these will ultimately count towards the title of E-System User Photographer of the Year. However, do bear in mind that each monthly round is a separate competition in its own right, and you can enter as many or as few rounds as you wish.

Voting begins on April 1st, 2026. 3 votes each, using the "Poll" system.

We'll try to keep the rules simple, but we must have a few:-

    1) Enter one picture only. You are able to change or delete your entry during the month. There is no time limit on the submitted photo. The Title is a description, and your interpretation is your decision.

    2) All entries must have been taken on an Olympus E-System body (Four Thirds or Micro Four Thirds), a non-Olympus body but using an Olympus Zuiko E-System lens or an Olympus digital compact such as the XZ-1 or the Tough Cameras.

    3) Three votes per member, please. You do not need to have entered the competition in order to vote.

    4) Don't vote for your own entry, please.

    5) Once you have voted, that's it. You can't change your mind!

    6) Because we are using the "Poll" system, you can "Like" away to your heart's content.

    Guidance

    7) I would urge participants in the challenges to produce new images for the given topics. The subjects are planned for up to six months in advance. Therefore, entries could quite easily have been taken up to 6 months in advance.

But what if you happen to have a great photo in your archive from much longer ago? Should we be denied the chance to see such gems?

What it boils down to, is that while in a perfect world, entries would be new for the given topic, it's not an exact science to 'police this' and the priority is to see great images given an outing, for our enjoyment. So, to summarise, please try to take new images, but we're not going to be disappointed by seeing great images from your archive.

    8) Olympus/OM System/Micro Four Thirds provenance

Our site is dedicated to Olympus/OM System and Micro Four Thirds photography. For the purposes of the challenges, entries must have been taken using an Olympus/OM System camera body and/or lens. We're happy to accepts images taken using other Four Thirds and Micro Four Thirds gear elements, as part of an Olympus/OM System setup. So, please, no Nikon, Canon, Pentax, smartphone, etc., images

Don't forget, the subject is open to your interpretation.

I hope that I have covered everything, but please do let me know if I have missed anything.

              Port Elizabeth (now renamed Gqeberha)

My brother and I used to play cricket on this patch of grass and weed with the rest of the neighbourhood kids in Humewood Extension, Port Elizabeth, South Africa.

We also used to stage soapbox car races down the concrete footpath.

Not ugly either. I like the pic, it gives a good sense of place.

                Church opposite my house
Interestingly it was de-constructed in Cambridge then moved by barge to its new location and rebuilt brick by brick.

And I probably haven't been in there since I was christened... Ran out of time to visit on the last Open Heritage day so will have to revisit.

My only visit was to locate the rotter who parked across our drive blocking the car in,
If you look carefully you can see the new digital pillar box complete with solar panels

Where is my home town? I nearly uploaded a picture of The Waits - I grew up in St Ives (Huntingdonshire) and visited there a couple of times last year. In fact, I've already been back this year but that was for a beer festival and I didn't take my camera.

Then I lived on the borders of Oxfordshire/Northamptonshire for 50 years so have hundred of pictures of Banbury, Northampton and Eydon (the small village where I actually lived).

I've not been here a year yet, so not a great many photos of the village itself. This was taken on a bimble round Gamlingay.

"Fun" fact - whichever route you approach Salisbury by, your first sight of the cathedral spire is always on the left.

Not my hometown now, but where I grew up. Taken from a visit for my dad's 85th birthday last weekend, this is one of two Wilmslow viaducts - railway bridges over the River Bollin. Dating back to the 1840s when Wilmslow station was first opened on a line from Manchester to Crewe and the Midlands. Over time, the railway increasingly focused on passenger traffic including to London, and was a key factor in the ongoing development of Wilmslow as a residential satellite town just 11 miles south of Manchester.
