  • Duxford Airshow

Despite some trying lighting conditions I managed to get some good shots from the flying legends show at Duxford a week ago. All are taken with the E1 and 50-200 with either the EC14 or EC20. Only post processing is resizing and a little sharpening for the net. I hope you like them as well.

I like the close-up detail of no. 3 the best.

If you don't mind me saying, the others lack "movement" or feeling somehow, even though you've managed not to stop the props, and get a blurred background. Someone more eloquent than I may be able to explain my feelings better than I can!

Thanks for the feedback. Getting the movement right is partly light, partly gear, and partly your skill. I have been recording Air shows for 30years now as an enthusiast and have still to master the art. There are those that will do this every weekend every summer with gear worth zillions, but I hope I can demonstrate that you don't need to have all the exotica to get some decent images.

Duxford is a difficult venue light wise as the crowd is on the north side so getting the sun at your back requires you to get there very early and stake out your spot at the western end of the field. Naturally these days it becomes very busy so I can't be bothered and just enjoy the day out.

        Hi Peter,

Please mind the horizon. Please straighten it. Now it looks like the plane are going down hill. The planes are level but your horizon is not straight and level. The FW-190 was making speed and had barely lifted his tail wheel. It is supposed to be a couple of inches of the ground and under an angle.
