low key
Look, I'm an old man. I shouldn't be expected to put up with this.

Re: low key
Hi
I like the idea and the lighting but my initial thoughts are for a tighter crop on the hands and camera as that is where your eye rests. I would then consider turning the camera around to allow the viewer to see more than just the tripod mount. If you wanted the whole person in you could always place your camera lower and at one side to give more perspective to the whole image. But there are no right or wrongs - are you happy with it? does it portray the story/feeling that you had envisaged before pressing the shutter?
Regards

Re: low key
Yes, I generally agree.. I tried a hands and camera only shot, but I was really after the iconic image with the whole body.. A lower viewpoint is a good option if I revisit this.
Its getting there, but I do wish I had held the camera t'other way round - but it involves a lot of unnatural wrist twisting
Oh, and as it was a one man shoot I had to dash into shot and assume the position before the self timer ran out ..

Re: low key
What you need to do is just rotate the camera 180 and hold the other side. If you had an fl36 or 50r you could fire that from camera without any need for a timer. The timer will work just require some practice and a floor marker to get you in the same position each time.
Have fun.

Re: low key
I really do like this.
Strange as this may sound, it has an atmospheric look that I can relate to and read my own situation into it.
I looked at this for a while before I figured out that it is best viewed in full screen mode, with no white border at all, that way you get the full effect of the blackness growing out from the hands.
The cost of ink may put you off printing it

Re: low key
Hmm.. I like this. To see the bottom of the camera does not bother me at all, it's normal when you carry a camera and keep your hands on your back.
The cramped way you hold the camera does bother me more. A camera held in a relaxed way does point it's tens to the right and not like it does in the image.
If it was my photo I would lighten the head/neck a little more in order to get more balance between the head and the hands. Just my opinion.
I'm looking forward to see the final version.

Re: low key
Maybe I can explain myself.. I was aiming at a camera version of the dark and brooding poster for the film "Unforgiven" where a certain Mr Eastwood is pictured in a similar pose with a '45 behind his back - hence the odd angle of the lens..
Hmm. Maybe I need to make the point in a more obvious manner
