The Curvy Beach

I have been playing with this image for ages.

The sweep of the beach really attracted my attention and the pic is intended exploit this curve. The dillema has been how much to 'smooth' out the sand. I have removed some seaweed which was a distraction but retained some texture, its the simplicity of the scene I wanted to capture.

Hmm. Its a nice subject but I think its one of those pictures that misses the spot slightly..

I had a play with it.. First, I think its too bright, on my monitor the sky is clipped near white, so I did a bit of highlight recovery. Next (where ever it is, I haven't been there - so I can do this next bit) it seems to "long" - so I changed the aspect ratio to square and added a black border. Finally I did some tweaks to get the foreground lighter relative to the background and added some character to the sky..

All of this is a long way from the original scene and begs the question - "How far should you go with Photoshop?"

Magazine photo editors would reply in unison "All the way"

Please dont apologise. I like the contrast but I am not sure about the square
ratio. I think you might be right that my original is too long but I like the idea of a portrait aspect to emphasise the long curvy shape of the beach.
Interestingly the contrast matches the print I have made, but it looks different on the site!
