ps. All the streets on our estate have "lakeland" names and Skkidaw Close is just off our street so my brain was half expecting a rather different view.

Impressive capture showing the colour cast by the setting sun, would have liked to be there myself.

Edit: Like Alf (below) I thought the focus was a bit off and just wondered if it was that or the 1/10 sec exposure being a tad too long and intoducing some camera shake. Being brain dead I didn't notice this was in LFI so didn't want to be too critical not knowing the E620 and with no idea about its stabilisation or sensor performance. Still a lovely composition though.

It falls into the nice try category for me.

The aperture at f3.2 is not small enough to get the Dof you need. It does not look as sharp as it could be.
Did you hand hold this?

You need to switch to ISO 200 you will get better dynamic range out of the E620. Whic lens was this with?

With a little work to improve the balance of the exposure it can look better. A few steps to the right would have put the sheep in a better position in the frame.

Thanks for the feedback, much appreciated (I am a complete novice so comments welcome )

I snapped the photo really quickly whilst trying to get my tripod out of its bag to set up, so observation correct on the camera shake.

Its not a great picture but a fantastic picture opportunity I didn't make the most off as by the time I had the camera on the tripod (see photo below) the richness of the light had gone......

I could not get further to the right due to fence in the way but agree sheep could have been better they moved on the next shots...

The lens was the 12-60SWD.

Can I ask what LFI is ?

Plus interested in the ISO 200 comment, I have tended to leave the camera set at ISO100 & what F No would you have gone for ?

LFI is Looking For Improvement.

My tip with the 12-60 for landscapes is use f8 at 12mm and set it to 1 meter in mf and you will get front to back Dof.

You shot at 18 mm so a fcosu distance of 4 meters at f5.6 would have done. Learn how slow of a shutter speed you can hand hold with the camera and when you use speeds at the limit take several shots and use the best.

IMO to shoot handheld in this situation you needed to up the ISO to 400 I shoot in apperture priority for landscapes and in manual focus mostly

The sheep helped add an element of depth to the shot and you would have been best with them at 1/3 of the way into the frame but sheep dont take direction well.

The best light of a golden hour is often very fleeting.

When you put the camera on the tripod remember to switch the IS off.

To hold the camera steady I recomend right hand on the camera as normal left hand under the lens and camera supporting it elbows pressed against you side and if possible lean against something solid if not legs apart breath and hold your breath while you gently squeeze the trigger. 1/10 sec is ambitous but can be done at 12mm.

That camera and lens combo is nice to use and capable some great results IMO here are a couple with that combo. These were shot in RAW and PP done in photoshop.

Looks like you shot the Skidaw view not far from where I was.

The buttermere shot is really nice.

Not far from Whithaven then !

Is a nice part of the world, I often Holiday around the Cockermouth area.

maybe another way to work with this picture is to lose more of the foreground to focus on the hillside and sky

Ah, we were at Braithwaite earlier and had a similar view across the fields of sheep to Skiddaw
